image from Google Blog Search on Denver real estate blogWhat is all the buzz about blogging?

It is a silly useless method of wasting time.  Realtors are currently taking up blogging on a daily basis. They sit in front of their computers when they should be out listing and selling houses.  They should be out knocking on cold doors and passing out key chains, calendars, refrigerator magnets and other useless trinkets with their photos on them.

Blogging?  What's the point?  People don't read blogs.  Buyers and sellers go directly to the grocery store to pick up a magazine when they want to buy or sell a house.  Realtors why are you not writing ads for magazines?

Blogging?  Jeeze, why would you want to blog when their are so many other fun things to do on a computer...like play solitaire?  Mind Sweep?  Or you can sit in the office all day and work on  your genealogy chart.

Blogging is just a fad.  Remember the 80's?  We used to have CB radios in our cars.  1040 big guy...what's your 20?

Do we talk like that anymore?  Of course not.  Blogging....bah humbug, it's a waste of perfectly good time.

Who wants to know the details of a neighborhood, what's to do or what it looks like?  Jeeze people can go drive around for crying out loud.  Why would they ever want to RESEARCH on real estate?  Bloggers write about the market, giving stats with pretty colored graphs.  Why waste your graphical talent on real estate graphs when you could be saving all the money by making your own Hallmark cards?

My Advice to Bloggers, wannabebloggers and lurkers...

Forgettabout it go do something else.  Blogging will never work.  The internet is just a fad.

That's a big 10-4 good buddy, see ya on the flipside. I'm sure blogging will go the way of the bellbottom pants and the nehru jackets too. Once it fades away another generation will bring it back.

Good post...

Thanks Jay

REALLY!?!?!?!  I can't believe someone would say that the internet itself is a fad!  Hasn't gone away yet and only seems to get bigger and better.  I can't believe someone says Realtors need to be out cold calling on people.  Maybe I need to devote sometime going through the expired lists or visiting a FSBO.  Only I will be doing it with information about my website and my blog!  Just amazing what some people think.

LOL...Cold Calling is what brokers who are stuck in the 70s teach.  We are in the information age people, not the door-to-door annoying vacuum salesperson age.  The Internet is here to stay so everyone better get used to it.  Great Post Kristal!

There was a day when the internet was for (click the link) http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=5430343841227974645  or cut and paste it...

I'm sure you've all seen this but... we've come a long way, baby!

I fervantly want every other agent in my area to believe that very same thing!!!!  I've even (probably stupidly) tried to bring my best agent friends into the network and they do nothing....  Well, I'll waste my time alone!!!

You are right. It is ALL A FAD ... Yep. Lets close up shop and go home! (and in the meantime, all the "fad followers'" businesses will skyrocket through the stratosphere...) Oh, wait .... Shhhh!

I got a very interesting comment to THIS POST, regarding this very matter ...

... and I am only one of a very few agents in my office who even knows what a blog IS, let alone utilize it. (dare I cheer???) I guess I will let them HAVE their cold calling and door knocking- all to themselves.

I have my weekly sales meeting in 45 minutes. We will discuss specializing in a building, farming bla bla bla. I will raise my hand and say cold calling is the way to go. Dare I tell them about my blogging secret. The few I have told think I'm a weirdo.

As long as google thinks I'm the specialist the buyers think it too.

I see Krystal is in the mood to stir the pot a little!  The sad thing is that at least one person will read this and believe it!  The good thing is, they probably aren't client material, and definitely not "competition"!

I see that it only takes a few minutes to post, or comment to a blog.  So, it doesn't take much time out of the day.  I always use the phrase, "It can't hurt".  It's just another way of keeping your name out there.

That's right, DON'T BLOG... it is probably a waste of time for those who'd rather be cold calling or knocking on doors...

For those of us who are not stuck in the 70's: BLOG, BLOG, BLOG!!! a recent survey from RSS revealed that only 37% small business owners publish a blog (us who blog are definitely pioneers). Out of those who publish from 3 times per week to daily, 39% report that search engine traffic grew, 18% claim that leads were generated and 11% attribute sales activity directly to their blog.

I'm like Mitchell ... I spent 10 minutes discussing blogging in my sales meeting (no sense hiding it - I seem to be in the re blogging capital of the world here in Phoenix.)

You could hear crickets chirping most of the time.

I couldn't agree more. There is so much competition out there to be noticed that it really is not worth it. Getting traffic, generating a ton of leads and just having an overall internet presence is just as impossible as winning the Illinois State Lottery, unless they are not looking for you they will not find you, what say you?

KK.... okay, so I guess you'll stop blogging.... lol So, you will drop from #1 to # 15 in 2 weeks. Or... are you trying to get us to think this way so we all drop off and you would be 40,000 points ahead of the person in 2nd..... Chris Tesch.... I agree, I have done the same and nobody has continued. Oh well. I love the fact that the mortgage industry is probably a mere 1% of all bloggers, where as realtors are probably a good 10%. Hey, I don't want everyone to know. Eric Reeber... it was good talking to you today. That has been a long time ago. I last saw Eric about 8 yrs ago and I worked with him back in 1993. Eric came across my blog and said hello. But in regards to your comment. Show me where blogging takes 10 minutes a day... ???? lol Sure, I have seen many 3 sentence blogs on here... but for the most part, they can take some time.

I am laughing all the way to the bank, this is a great post.

It seems Indiana is even further behind then most states, look at how many people actively post in Indiana.  Myself and one other person.    I have asked others into activerain, nope, no one joins...

Just like websites, blogging, and everything else I do to get leads.

I think I will spread a rumor on the interent that blogging about real estate is a fad and a waste of time.  Of course I will continue to do it.  i should probably consider dropping the blogging class that I teach.  But I am going to wait until after I teach the session in cancun this January. :)

Bill French made a great comment at our meeting in New Orleans that blogging may replace the shopfront websites and be a more personal vehicle to the customers we want to reach.  I had to explain 4 times this week what a blog was..nice article KK

I sure hope the other agents in Wenatchee read your post and actually believe it!  They haven't discovered blogs yet and I hope they don't because I like my current Google rankings.  I currently dominate "Wenatchee real estate agent" in Google, thanks to my blogs and linking them with my primary website (TopPropertiesWenatchee).  But it's just a fad, so I'll have to find a new hobby soon...like in 37 years (when I'm dead).

I'll buy that...the Internet is a fad. After all, there are only hundreds of millions of users worldwide and growing daily, and a few million companies doing billions in on-line business annually. Didn't we just have Cyber Monday??

Since fads are usually replaced by other fads, I wonder what that will be?

Okay, you talked me into it. I quit! Now let me buy a couple hundred dollars worth of stamps, again as much for some postcards, empty out a cabinet drawer for all the stacks of "undeliverable" returns, reactivate my dial-up connection, polish my gum soled 'doorknocking' shoes,  dust off my horse and ride!

ps...I liked your post!

Kristal,

Good points.  But why would anyone want to let it out they were a real estate Blogger.  Soon buyers and sellers of real estate will classify you as an expert on the markets and realize you know more than other agents because you have learned information from fellow bloggers.  Next thing they'll be calling you to set up appointments to buy and sell homes, then you won't have time to blog because you'll be busy depositing commissions at your bank.  This cannot blogging cannot be a good thing.
