So my husband and I were enjoying our last day of vacation when I received a call from one of my credit card companies.  "Hello Mrs. Florence, this is ... calling, we have noticed some unusual activities on your master-card account and need to verify some information."  I immediately told them I would call them right back-I wasn't sure if this was legit phone call or what.  SO once I called them back and did verify that it was my credit card company calling they proceeded to tell me that there was 4 transactions that they needed to check with me about.  I told them I haven't used my card in over a week and that I have been in the Caribbean.  I have 2 pending charges on my account that are for a total of $260.00.  They put a hold on my account right away so the other charges didn't go through.  What has me confused is I have my card!  I didn't loose it, misplace it, I have it with me.  I don't know how someone was able to got to the mall and make purchases.  They must have presented a card! Right?! I don't know how they got a copy of my card if they have one.  I am assured that these charges will be taken care of and I will not have to pay-thank-goodness!  I am so amazed that there are people in this world that are so dishonest-scum is what they are.  Its not like they went to the grocery store and bought food, but went to a hip hop clothing store and had a great time!  What comes around, goes around.  Hopefully they will be caught but I doubt it.  Anyway, all I can say is, be careful and always check your statements.  I am grateful to my cc company that they put a stop to it right away.  I will have to dispute the charges but I was told I won't have to pay!  So after a wonderful vacation, I now come home to deal with this mess.

I got a call from Mastercard a few months back  They have changed my account number a couple of times, because someone hacked into their system and stole or information from their computers.

Hey Penny, if you've used the Mastercard online it's very likely that somebody got a hold of your info that way.  I'm sorry this happened to you.  I hope they figure out who did this to you.  Just a little encouragement for you.  This happened to my neighbor while he was on vacation.  Somebody was charging thousands of dolllar's on his card.  The credit card company and the authorities decided to have UPS still proceed with delivering the merchandise.  When the people at the door signed my neighbors name, the police were around the corner to arrest the individuals.  It did come back around for them.

I'm glad you were smart enough to call them back. Did you call the number back THEY gave you...or the number on the back of your credit card by chance? You will also want to call one of the 3 credit reporting bureau's and place a "FRAUD ALERT" on all of your accounts. It's a bit of a pain when applying for a new cc at any retail store...but just remember when they ask to speak to you while applying...you need to tell bring up the fact that YUO PLACED A FAUR ALERT ON YOUR FILE. This is the info they are looking for and will tell them that you are the correct person. You also may need to answer some goofy questions like - what was your last months mortgage payment or what company do you pay your mortgage to.  Again, they are trying to determine you are the legit person to apply for this new cc.

Hope that helps!

Beth, I called the number on the card, although they did give me a number to call but didn't trust that number and want to be very sure it was my cc company.  I am in the  process of getting it cleared up.

Penny, sorry to hear that happened to you and you had to go through that.  I've had that happened a couple times myself....once where they had to change my account number and dispute the charges (which worked out with no problem) and the other time the credit card company called right away and the charges weren't put through as they were not authorized.  Hope all works out well for you.
