I personally was moved when I read this. As early as 1934, the push was on for Universal health care mandated by the government in this here Unite States. Of course no one could agree and it dragged out. Kennedy was gearing up to take this on when he got shot and it fell away with him.
MEDICARE FOUGHT TO BE BORN
It was President Johnson that prevailed and passed what we now know as Medicare. Here is where it gets interesting. It was Former President Truman who was then over 8o years old and who became the very first beneficiary of the program. When he was issued his Medicare Card, he stated the following:
" NO U.S. CITIZEN SHOULD EVER BE ABANDONED TO THE INDIGNITY OF CHARITY OR SUFFER HOPELESS DESPAIR"
The program currently services about 50 million people. It is being reported that it is going to become too expensive in years to come. But a closer look reveals the reason why. As with all things that come under the capitalistic systems, money becomes the focus...not people
THE HUMAN FACTOR...GREED
Doctors and hospitals quickly caught on how easy it was to bill the government and started getting creative to boost their own bottom lines. Instead of ordinary aspirin, prescription drugs were sold. Where a pill could reduce a system, surgery instead was suggested. Of course the old favorite of having to see a patient over and over again never fails
THOSE CHECKS KEEP COMING IN
After excessively billing the government and getting paid, it then becomes a production machine to make money from a sure thing. Picture a slot machine that is not working correctly and pays out constantly instead of of its intended programming.
THE PROGRAM MAKES SENSE
So the system that made sense and that was of good benefit to the American people along with its sister program of Social Security has been tampered with and abused by greed and mis-management. These programs work well and serve the American people.
IT SERVES THE PEOPLE WHO PAID INTO IT
Whats wrong with a system that offers a quality of life via retirement assistance and medical care to people who have paid into it for decades when they need it the most which is toward the end of their journey? NOTHING. It is the abuse of the system that is the problem
WHEN WILL MANKIND LEARN?
Stop the abuse and the system serves the people it was intended for. The system is fine.
It is us that needs repairs
