I have a little story to share.
The performance on one of my sites has been really really bad for months. I've gone round and round and round with the service provider. They always say it's not a problem "on their end", and that I must have some configuration problems. It's on a shared server.
Flash forward to last night:
Site goes down, totally inaccessible. I waited until this morning, figuring they were having network problems.
Tech guy disappears for half an hour, and finally comes back, tells me the (shared) server is seriously overloaded and they are "watching it". After a few rounds of 20 questions, he finally asks why I am "still on a legacy server" (meaning: an old one) instead of the "grid servers" (meaning: the good ones).
AUGH!!!!!!!
Now it's on a newer server and the performance is noticeably improved.
I knew it was on their end, but I was just too danged nice to be as aggressive as I should have been to uncover the truth months ago.
Trust your instincts and don't let up!
