Your Real Estate WebSite: Trust Your Instincts

By
Industry Observer

I have a little story to share.

The performance on one of my sites has been really really bad for months. I've gone round and round and round with the service provider. They always say it's not a problem "on their end", and that I must have some configuration problems. It's on a shared server.

Flash forward to last night:

Site goes down, totally inaccessible. I waited until this morning, figuring they were having network problems.

Tech guy disappears for half an hour, and finally comes back, tells me the (shared) server is seriously overloaded and they are "watching it". After a few rounds of 20 questions, he finally asks why I am "still on a legacy server" (meaning: an old one) instead of the "grid servers" (meaning: the good ones).

AUGH!!!!!!!

Now it's on a newer server and the performance is noticeably improved.

I knew it was on their end, but I was just too danged nice to be as aggressive as I should have been to uncover the truth months ago.

Trust your instincts and don't let up!

Sometimes being so nice can be so frustrating. I too had a similar experience and it took me a few months before finally I called it quits and went to something else.

Don't you just hate that?  I wish more people would accept responsibility, it would save us all a lot of wasted time!

Probably time to look into switching. Hostmonster.com uses CPanel and is very realiable.

I'm on GoDaddy. I have been thinking of switching, but it's going to be a lot of work to move evertything.

Randy - are you getting good site performance?

Hi Nona - are you happy with the new one?

Hi Peggy - don't you know it!  I KNOW they knew they had problems! I can only imagine what the slowness cost us, not to mention my time waiting for pages to load when I was working on them!

Alison, you've made a good point.  Thank you for sharing who the host was also.  That might save me some heartache in the near future.

Unfortunately, it often takes age and experience to make us start standing up for ourselves.  Trust your gut - it is the new battlecry.  And what I always tell my girls - decide what you want when you go in to a situation, and don't settle until you get that solution.

Hi Sondra - I hope you find a hosting company that has the service you need - would love to hear which one you pick.

Mimi - you are SO right! When I haven't has been stuff I later regret.

Hi, Alison. This is over my head, but I'm glad it's been fixed. Who is your server, btw?
