One of the first restaurants I visited when we moved to Lutherville almost 6 years ago was Kathmandu Kitchen.  I love ethnic foods and had been looking for a great asian restaurant.  One day I found a flyer in the Val-Pak and decided to try it during lunch and have been hooked ever since. 

My Broker, Dottie Cordwell, and I went to see Alex Charfen at his Race for Success Tour this morning and decided to have lunch afterwards and went to Kathmandu Kitchen. 

Kathmandu Kitchen is located in Towson at 22 W. Allegheny Ave.  There is parking in several "Pay and Display" lots across the street and limited parking along this section of Allegheny. 

On nice days there is limited outside seating and plenty of elegant seating inside the restaurant.  Kathmandu serves South Asian cuisine. The exciting menu that consists of rich Indian dishes flavored with bold Himalayan spices from Nepal and Tibet.  Start off with fresh Naan bread and soup, and then try one of their savory chicken, lamb, or shrimp dishes. If you prefer vegetarian dishes, try their flavorful Saag Paneer or Fenugreek.  At lunchtime they have an excellent and inexpensive buffet that allows you to try many of their signature dishes.  During the work week the buffet is $7.95 plus drinks, on the weekend it is $8.95. 

If  you have never had Nepalese cuisine you are in for a treat.  The food is full of flavor but not hot spicey and offers many pleasant flavors for the palette.  I enjoy Paneer Pakora which is somewhat like American Hush Puppies but with more texture and flavor and has shredded onions in it.  I dip this in Raita.  Then I have Aloo Gobi (potatoes with onions, cauliflower and peppers with light curry flavor), basmati rice, vegetable khourma (absolutely yummy), chicken makhani, and chicken tikka masala.  Then for dessert there is kheer and Gulab Jamun (very light donut holes soaked in a wonderful spiced syrup).   My son loves their Biryani, which is a flavorful rice dish.

Khatmandu Kitchen is a great restaurant to gather with friends to have quiet conversation.  This is a quiet restaurant with quiet music playing in the background that is totally unobtrusive.  The decor in the dining room is elegant and inviting.
