Due Dilligence on Zillow - Part 2

Due Dilligence on Zillow - Part 2.

I took on Brad Andersohn's challenge in Part 1, and now will report on the email I received last week from Zillow, letting me know that I should sign up for Zillow Premier Agent because my zip code is now available for as low as $12/month.

Zillow email

I called Zillow and, lo and behold, found the classic bait and switch. Sure, you can have the zip code for $12 a month, but only on Yahoo Real Estate.  If you want Zillow, well, that's more than triple the cost. But ... they'd throw in the Yahoo membership for free.

Oh, there's more!  For that $12 a month on Yahoo Real Estate, you get only one-quarter (25%) visibility.  They'll sell 4 slots for each zip code.  Sure, you can purchase one, two, three or all four. And this is not a month-to-month committment. This is a 6-month run.

What have I learned from all this? I still don't like Zillow.  And now I like May 2011 CalendarZillow even less.

HI Lorrie,

I utilize zillow for the "make me move"  its a great way to meet new people who are thinking about real estate.

Kim: I've also checked the Make Me Move for my city and the listers are either 1) agents trolling for buyers or 2) buyers with totally unrealistic expectations.

Zillow has some positiv and negatives but it's so prevalent with clients that we have to adopt it's use.

Lorrie,

Thanks for sharing, good to know and now I don't have to waste my time.  Hate those bait and switch ploys.

Hi again Lori - sorry for the delay getting here to respond, I've been busy helping agents who DO like us and use our site! lol!  Just fyi...there's no bait and switch over at Zillow or at Yahoo.

The bigger issue here is obviously some mis-communication and mis-interpretation which can happen easily when people misunderstand the actual discussions and real life diologues that take place.

I'm not here to try and convince you to like us, me, or our site... or why Zillow generates the traffic we do, or why people search Yahoo for real estate, but I do resent that you would make false claims about our company.  No different than if I started telling folks that you and your company bait and switch on your commisions, your site, blog, or your marketing and advertising campaigns?

We DO NOT bait and switch EVER just for the public and viewers record here.

Brad: Perhaps you should have a conversation with Mr. Shon at your company. He had the campaign re-written because it was inaccurate.

OK, inaccurate may have been the case, or maybe even a typo perhaps, but even if that were the case, does that really make it "bait and switch?" c'mon Lorrie, we both know the truth.

Thanks for at least correcting your verbiage from "bait and switch" to inaccurate.  :-)

Brad, believe whatever you want. The email offered one thing, that thing was not available when I contacted Zillow and they offered something else. That is bait and switch.
