Man's Best Friend: The Cross Country Skiing Pup

I was going through my photos and came across these 2 pictures that I took last winter. I was at a local park taking my dog Lucy for a walk in the snow when a guy pulled up alongside our car and proceeded to take out his cross country skis. Suddenly, I noticed he had a companion, (George) waiting patiently to join him on his cross country outing.

George was the cutest pup I'd ever seen - not that I let on, considering I was with Lucy who would undoubtedly get an inferiority complex - she's not fond when I gush over another canine!  I asked his owner about George's aerodynamic suite and he said that while George loved accompanying him on his cross country skiing excursions, the ice got into his paws and fur causing him pain, so he had a suit design for him. He thought it only befitting to wear a matching hat. When Lucy wasn't looking, I snaped these photos...

Kathy - you're welcome and they were both cute!

Arleen - Thank you and you have a great weekend too!

Bob - You're welcome - have a great weekend!

Ben - I love my dog too and find I'm always attracted to other dog lovers - we can talk all day about our canine friends!

John - you are too funy. I had my first laugh of the day!

Sandi - lol, I can't take any credit here - George is the real star!

Sally - His owner said once he hits the snow and his paws and belly don't freeze, he runs for miles and loves it. Before the booties and suite he could only spend 15 miniuts in the snow before ice got in his paws and he had to turn back. George was such a cutie!

Tom - I agree if it's a "costume" but this owner design this outfit to protect George from the ice and snow so he could accompany his dad while cross country skiing. Without the suit, Gorge couldn't go out in the snow or his body and paws would freeze.

John - while he might be embarrassed by the suit, (he does look it a little - lol) he sure loved running in the snow without freezing his paws and belly. My Cocker Spaniel had the same problem - happens to all really furry dogs. Thanks for asking about the knee - slowly but surly it's healing, but I'm pretty stir crazy!

Peg - So glad you "get it" because I had a Cocker Spaniel who we had to have little shoes made up to protect her paws or she could not go out in the snow for more than 10 minutes and then I'd have to put her into a warm tub get the ice out. More dog owners should be so responsible!

Laura- hahaha - she would not have been happy!

Debbie - Thanks and it's so hard to get good photos of our pets - they never really show how cute a dog/or cat is in person.

hahaha Roger - I agree!

Ginny- lol - I think he likes running along side his master but you never know....

Michele - George would be happy with your comment! You have a great weekend too!

Keith- LOL - Lucy is a diva and we are just living in her world. I was very careful not to let her see me take the photos - there would be hell to pay!

Anita - my Lucy has a very short coat and thin skin and it was a battle to put a coat on her. We hung in there and now whenever she sees her winter coat, she gets so excited because she knows she's going for a walk in the snow and will stay warm. We had it custom made out of fleece to keep her extra warm when the temps go down to 10 degrees and without the coat she wouldn't last longer than 10 minutes. Now she can run for miles without getting cold.

Roy - so cute right and the suit has a purpose so that George can run in the snow so it's a good thing!

Tagrid - your pup is so cute and looks pretty comfortable! Have a great weekend!

Joan - Me either, but it makes sense because dogs with lots of fur get ice in there paws and it's very painful. I think George looks pretty handsome in his ski suit - lol!

Kristine, that is tooo cute... I would have gone up to the owner and asked about the dogs suit to, my dog, Snowy, would have gotten jealous as well but sometimes in instances like these, you can't help but ask.

Melinda - so cute right and it serves a purpose - George can run for miles without freezing his little paws off!

Stacy - lol - I actually had a North Face fleece coat cut up and custom made for my Lucy because the cold is her problem - she doesn't have a lot of fun so her paws are fine. My last dog, Jessie, a Cocker Spaniel was as warm as could be, but we had to have shoes fitted for her because she got ice in her paws. What we wouldn't do for our wonderful dogs!

Craig - I completly agree - it just a good thing my LUcy can't read this!

Rob - That's the same thing I had to do with my Cocker Spaniel Jessie until I found some booties and the problem was solved!

Kristine, this is too cute, but I must agree with others - George doesn't look impressed by his designer suit. Too funny.

You know, I think Craig should take this and practice putting his head where the dog's is, then where the guy's is....actually, just where the dog's is--that would slay me!!!

And your first comment from Kathy was right--they're BOTH cute.  Chick magnet for sure.

Once again...late to the party...just now going to do my comments, but you post at the wee hours of the morning girlfriend!

A friend of mine wrote a post the other day about taking your dogs for walks in the heat...about them running in fur coats...so your post is great to read.  An owner taking a real interest in his canine!

And I ditto...only you would have camera ready to go anywhere!

Hey, girl, I DID send Craig an e-mail...he didn't want to "adulterate" your cute pup, but I said, it's not HERS! He respects you too much.

Darn, why don't you put the pressure on him???

Cindy - don't worry, I'm always late to the party too and you're right, I'm a night owl! I also read Pat's post and summer is not the only time we need to protect our canine friends. Frozen paws and bellies of long haired dogs are very painful and dangerous. I love the fact that this owner found a way for his dog to be able to get out into the snow for hours completely protected from the elements. It's a good message to all pet owners!

Gayle - I think George deserves more respect than that. After all, just look at him - he's humiliated already - lol! Once he jumped out of the car though, he was loving his snow suit and ran like the wind!

Patrica - This is why I ALWAYS carry my camera. BTW - I'm just loving your photos from your amazing trip to Europe - keep them coming!

How funny, wearing all that purple!   I wonder if my George, who is a white poodle, feels deprived that he doesn't get to wear winter clothes that match mine.  lol
