Grass is Always Greener

Several years ago I had a friend ask me to come over to help work in his yard.  This is one of my hobbies and I had the time so I went to help.  When I arrived I learned the project he was wanting help with was fertilizing his yard.  I thought this should be a quick job.  My friend could use a hose and do the back and I could use the other to do the front.  Wrong!  He brought out some stakes and string along with a one hundred foot measuring tape!

He had read the directions that said the application for his liquid fertilizer was for so many square feet.  You guess it.  We laid the yard out with the stakes and string so he knew how many square feet he was applying the fertilizer too.  He was afraid of overlapping that would cause the lawn to streak.  I was thinking, "What the heck.  This is going to take forever!"  I always mix the fertilizer to the dilution stated and go.

Each square got its fair share.  When we were through he started undoing the string and rolling it up.  I asked him if he would be fertilizing again this year he said, "yes."  (In my mind I knew I would be busy next time!)  His yard did not streak, his grass was lush green and he won the "Best Landscaped Yard" that summer.  As for me, my yard was green, did not notice any streaking and everyone seemed to enjoy the yard when we had guests.

This is a true story!  What is the lesson learned?

We have a family member who turns everything into a production.  Unfortunately, we need to use his tiller to get our garden ready.

And as for the "grass is greener" quote, we used to have goats and I'm convinced they are the reason for this quote.  They are terrible about wanting to get on the other side of the fence.

Tracie - Oh my gosh if that happened to my friend!!!  Raised our family on a farm in Kansas.  You are soooooo right.  A fence was just a challenge to a goat.  8-)  Thank you for taking time to read my post.  Success to you!
