How to Make Activerain Your Home Page in Firefox

By
Real Estate Agent with Long & Foster Real Estate, Inc.

Firefox Tools

It's a simple 2-step process to make Activerain your home page in Firefox.

Ever since Bing crept into my laptop like a pirate in the night and took over as my homepage a few weeks ago, it's been like an unwelcome guest at the breakfast table.  But no more.

Activerain is always one of the first places I visit online -even on days when I don't have time to read, comment, or post - so I made Activerain my homepage earlier this week.

It couldn't be any easier!

  1. In Firefox, go to the Tools menu, then select Options.   (See image on the right)
  2. In the Home page section, type the web address for your new home page in the box. (See image below)  Or you may prefer to type in the URL for your Activerain log-in page.

Firefox Tools

Now click the "OK" button at the bottom of this screen (not shown).  It's that easy. Now you can start your online day with Activerain instead of that nasty ol' Bing or other default home page.

That nasty old Bing is always creeping in every time I download some software of my browser gets updated.  It is one of the irritating things about the internet lately.

Great tip.  I tend to set google as my homepage and bookmark all my other important sites in the toolbar for easy access.

Aaron, #16, that's one of the funniest things I've read in a while. As for ActiveRain, that's a good idea. I always have Google as my homepage, but I think I use it less than AR.

Margaret, Thanks for the tip. Firefox is my default browser … I do have a need from time to time to use other browsers … compatibility issues. Firefox with AR … the best!

I use Google as my home page and go with the multi-tab approach. Really need to change that to a personalized iGoogle page to be even more efficient.

I'm with Marc, up above.  If Active rain is having difficulties, your browser won't open correctly until after it times out, same for any other site.  With a blank home page it will open no matter what.

I used to make my favorite site my homepage for when I launch my browser but Marc is right and it bugs the heck out of me because my homepage is not loading. It has to wait until the website timed out. Great tips for though.

Thanks Margaret. I have had AR as my homepage on Internet Explorer for years, but all of a sudden out of the blue I can't type anything into the AR boxes with IE. So have now switched to using Firefox and that appears to have solved the problem. Your post was very timely for me!

Mary - Enjoy!

Alan - It IS easy, and I never did it either until Bing got on my nerves.  And thanks for your comment #14 answering Laura's question about how to do this on MAC.

Patricia - I did this about 2 years ago for my assistant, but never bothered for myself.  Sometimes we procrastinate on th easiest things...

Beth, I loved Firefox until recently... 'hoping the glitch that came with my last update is a temporary thing.  It's been fine since I did some routine computer maintenantce (disk cleanup, defrag, etc.)

Laura - 'Hope you noticed that Alan answered that in Comment #14.

Gina - Funny that I set up my assistant w/ Activerain as her home screnn, but not myself - til now.

Agent Aaron - LOL.  I guess you'll get that error message, and you'll have to open a different window, but you would be in Firefox.

Thom - I didn't want to confuse things, but actually... it's easy to have 2 or 3 tabs open on start-up.

Peggy - I did that for a long time, but that pesky little Bing invaded my computer and wiped out my preferences...  I like to have Activerain, my business email account, and my personal email account.

Evelyn - You're welcome!

Don - Yes, Bing is more aggressive than Yahoo, Google and those other start pages that try to sneak their way in.

Joan - I encho that!

I keep my browser open all the time with several tabs open to different pages, so I really don't have a home page per se, but I do have the Active Rain toolbar installed so I can go to AR any time I want from any page! Works for me!
