2 Timothy 2:1-4 (The Message)
2 Timothy 2
1-7So, my son, throw yourself into this work for Christ. Pass on what you heard from me—the whole congregation saying Amen!— to reliable leaders who are competent to teach others. When the going gets rough, take it on the chin with the rest of us, the way Jesus did. A soldier on duty doesn't get caught up in making deals at the marketplace. He concentrates on carrying out orders. An athlete who refuses to play by the rules will never get anywhere. It's the diligent farmer who gets the produce. Think it over. God will make it all plain.
“Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ.” 2 Timothy 2:3
We’re called upon to endure hardness as a good soldier of the cross, and take it on the chin! Many of us can talk a good religion. But are you ready to get involved? ( ***TO DO THIS) see asterisks *** below., that I added for emphasis. Luke 25:28.
We can say how terrible it is that something is happening in society today. We see things that we feel should be different or changed...
We say we know that Christ can make a real difference in this world, and in our neighborhood and in our own lives....
But are we willing to get our own hands dirty?
Are you ready to make a difference? Will you pray and ask God, "Lord, I am ready and willing to do whatever you ask me to do! Without excuse, help me Lord to be involved outside of the four walls of the church building, where life happens, where people are hurting, where a savior needs to be proclaimed, where the GOSPEL (Good News) can bring hope to a dying world, among the sick, the diseased, and the sinner. Lord, you have made a difference in my life and I know you have sacrificed yourself on the cross for my sins, help me now to make a sacrifice for you, to serve you and my neighbors. The world outside my door needs this message of hope! Here I am Lord, use me. Make me a doer of your word. Amen.
Many believers are high on sentiment and low on sacrifice. We don’t know what it is to fight for the Lord Jesus Christ. If you’re looking for an easy way to serve the Lord, you can forget it. Faith comes from action - trusting in God. An act of Faith!
Luke 10:25-37 (New International Version)
The Parable of the Good Samaritan
25 On one occasion an expert in the law stood up to test Jesus. “Teacher,” he asked, “what must I do to inherit eternal life?”
26 “What is written in the Law?” he replied. “How do you read it?”
27 He answered, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’; and, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.”
28 “You have answered correctly,” Jesus replied. “***Do this and you will live.”
29 But he wanted to justify himself, so he asked Jesus, “And who is my neighbor?”
30 In reply Jesus said: “A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, when he was attacked by robbers. They stripped him of his clothes, beat him and went away, leaving him half dead. 31 A priest happened to be going down the same road, and when he saw the man, he passed by on the other side. 32 So too, a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side. 33 But a Samaritan, as he traveled, came where the man was; and when he saw him, he took pity on him. 34 He went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he put the man on his own donkey, brought him to an inn and took care of him. 35 The next day he took out two denarii and gave them to the innkeeper. ‘Look after him,’ he said, ‘and when I return, I will reimburse you for any extra expense you may have.’
36 “Which of these three do you think was a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of robbers?”
37 The expert in the law replied, “The one who had mercy on him.”
Jesus told him, “Go and do likewise.”
