George Washington's Townhouse
When we think of George Washington's home, we usually think of Mt. Vernon estate where our first President lived full time. Mount Vernon is located 16 miles south of Washington, DC and 8 miles south of Alexandria, VA.
The house you see on the picture used to be Washington's "home away from home." When George Washington had to take care of urgent business in Alexandria or Washington, he often stayed at his modest townhome in Alexandria.
This townhome is a recreation of the original home built by George Washington in 1769. Today, this home serves as a private residence. I have visited it many times, enjoying the cozy interior. It is fun to imagine George Washington walking through the same rooms as I did on many occasions.
