Attention To Detail - Built to Last

By

Attention to detail takes on a whole new meaning in front of this architectural wonder. To think, something this old can still look so good? This church was built at a time, in a place where the Architect had just as much power and influence as the church. This is no ordinary, cookie-cutter structure. The photo was taken in Italy a few weeks ago on Easter Sunday.

Patricia,

I love love the title.  There is a book that we love with that same title.  We are lovers of Italy and have been there 14 times.  I even learned to speak Italian.  I can't wait to go back!  That church is beautiful, and when you think that they built them well with crude tools (by today's standards), without any inspectors or permits needed and they still stand tall and proud.  Quality and lasting quality are standards we love.  A

Hi Patricia, how beautiful this is.  Do you know the name of it?  I would love to go to Italy someday - I'm sure I'd have to stay for a year to see all the countryside and architecture there.

Is that St. Peter's Basilica?  If not, it sure look similar.  A beautiful piece of architecture.  I saw it once when I was in Italy in the late 90's.

Joshua - Like you, and so many others, I have the greatest respect for artists, architects, and people who create things. The craftsmanship, the beauty, the intricate work makes me speechless and proud to know that we ALL have the potential to do great things with our hands and our mind.

Judi - My Sunday was packed with appointments. It was a very good day! I was very glad to hear from you!

Ron & Alexandra - 14 times!!!! You need to double that number! WOW! That's pretty amazing that you've been there that many times and I'm so proud to know that you learned Italian. I think we should all learn to speak other languages, and what better one to learn than Italian! If we ever have an ActiveRain Camp in Italy, and get a GROUP rate, you could be our tour directors!

Cindy - I felt like a little kid waking on Christmas morning, over and over and over again. It was BETTER than the movie Groundhog day!

Mary - I'll contact my daughter to find out the name and location. I really hope you get there! Let me know if you book a flight and I'll get as much informaiton as I can!

Rob - I sure do wish that was true! When I left for my trip some developers were playing in the dirt with their tractors - when I came home there were building! How could that be possible??? No wonder why we have foundtion problems!

Micheal - it definitely is not St. Peters Basilica. I was in Pisa, Florenece, Montalcino, Sienna, Tuscany, Volterra, Lucca, Milan, and a few other places in Italy that I can't spell.

Judith - thanks! I was drawn to that quote and I thought it spoke volumes for this photograph!

Joan - I appreciate hearing that from you very, very much!

Oh Mary - I now have memories to last a life time!

Thank you ALL for visiting and having such wonderful things to say. Sharing our sentiments for attention to detail and quality craftsmanship is such a desire for ALL! Isn't the human mind AMAZING! I think this is proof that we can all do more with our God given talents and perhaps we should stop relying on manufactured technology and material things that don't last. Human Beings CAN make things that are built to last!

Melinda,

Can you imagine structures like this here? If we are so struck by awe today, imagine what it was like to see something like that built back then?
