22 Comments on I'm Outraged, I'm incensed! I better find out what to do about this ......
Alan: Good point about the search. I was just so surprised that someone would do this. It's like a piggyback on my internet name for their search. Yes, that is a good idea. I could bankrupt them right out of their paid search.
Nancy: I'm not sure it's an ethics violation. But it's a violation of 'my brand' that's for sure.
Interesting...but don't do what Alan said...Google penalizes people who click it excessively...or that's what I have heard...but if we all click it...hmmm...strategy materializing...
Dang just went to do that...and it isn't showing up...
Lyn,
You probably don't have to do much.
I am sure that REMAX will vigorously defend their brand against black hat stuff like this, and step in for you, if you ask them.
Interesting... The hijackers are in my back yard. I bet they hired an "SEO" firm....
I wouldn't be too worried about it interrupting your business. I'm with Alan. If someone is searching for your name, then they want you.
Mike: I agree it's black hat for sure. What kind of people did they hire though? Why from your neck of the woods would they bother with me?
Cindy: I clicked thru & it went to an MLS search site with their names on the bottom.
Chris Ann: Yes I guess so, thanks for calming me down. I can't believe people do this kind of stuff. I will find out what REMAX says on Monday about it like Mike suggested. They defend their/our logos like a mother bear.
Lyn,
Hey. This may be innocent. Their page shows that the folks who came up with your last name also service Sims, North Carolina.
I wonder how REMAX fits in... Maybe because of an IDX listing? Or something Z57 has baked into their template?
Anyway, it appears that Sims Remax are terms they are paying for, although it may be separately from each other.
BTW, it is a BIG back yard. They are 60 milles from me.
Good luck.
Hmmm.... will have to go and check. Will let you know what I find out.
Lyn & Mike, It looks to me like they just want to snag anyone that searches RE/MAX and Sims, NC, knowing very few will be searching their brand name. That said, kinda shady to use another brokerages brand name that you're NOT affiliated with to snap clients. Let the folks in Denver at RE/MAX International play with it.
Hey Lyn,
Me again, I just checked, they are in North Carolina. No worries... nothing is phony about them.
BLiz: Yes, will let Colorado handle it or our regional office.
Tagrid: Not that they are a phoney company, what are they doing snagging buyers or sellers right next to my name? Doesn't say Sims North Carolina. It says Sims REMAX.
Paula: I would just to be sure.
Mike: Of course it's a big sandbox but it just seems too odd. Sims NC does not come up for that.
Andrew: Thanks.
Glenn: Well my name is my brand. Sims North Carolina OK, Sims at REMAX is not funny.
Lyn, it is very scary how our identity gets stolen, copied, or bullied sometimes. The price we pay for being tech savy!
Lyn: No worries on this! You KNOW .. as we do ... that there is no replacement for you! Bet whoever this other Sims in NC is, they don't wear a mean sombrero like you do ...
Gene
I have seen this when I have checked my name off and on.
You'd be surprised how tricky Google is for allowing people to ride the coat tails of another. That spot was paid, and Google sold it to them.
Carla: Someone typed in those 'Adwords' for that spot so I will find out who.
Gene: Just don't want anyone riding free on my coat tails.
Ellen: Someone just emailed me a story about them getting bullied by someone BTW.
I'll go click a few times on your behalf. Adword clicks can run up to $2.50 or more ;-)
I do believe that is an ethics violation and you should report it. They are clearly using your name to get your clients, it is the same as them using your listings to steal your buyers.
