This morning I woke early to the sound of rain pounding my roof. It has been a wild day of thunder and lightening accompanied with pea-sized hail. Yet, the calendar tells me it is the middle of May.
The Sacramento Bee is reporting, that nearby Cameron Park, a community about 20 miles East of Sacramento is at high risk for wildfires this year.
However, a quick journey from Sacramento to the Sierra Nevadas, east of the City of Auburn, will find heavy snow blanketing many areas.
As I mentioned in a blog last week, some residents in Greater Sacramento are currently having water meters installed. We are learning to conserve water. Yet, we worry about flooding. It is a year of contradictions:-)
Ted - A kid down the street is blaming it on a magnet shift of the earth's poles. He is certain the North and South are switching. He's only 8, but he's smarter than other experts who haven't told us what is up:-) Since I don't have any other answers, I guess I'll accept his explanation. . .LOL
Myrl, these photos are just BEAUTIFUL. There are many changes going on. That's for sure. One thing we can count on though are the wonderful posts from lovely people like you. Thank you for this.
Deb
Myrl, that's what we call typical New England weather. You never know from one day to the next what you're going to get. It's been pretty chilly here the past week and thunderstorms and rain this weekend. But, at least flowers are blooming and the sun is out most days. Last year we didn't have a Spring at all.
Debbie - The irony was too "in my face" to ignore it:-)
Deb - I'm glad you liked them. . .And thank you for your kind words!
Nina - I fully understand there are areas of the country where this weather is the norm, rather than the unusual. But we are soft here in California, we aren't use to this stuff:-)
Hi Myrl, I love all the Alpine scenes and I can't wait to return there for another visit. Love it. And you are right , it is a year ( or two or three) of contradictions. :-)
Hi Myrl...I thought we missed Spring Last Year...This Year the Gods forgot to tell us to Build an Arc..I do like the Sounds of Rain..:O)
Hi Myrl - The weather has not been dull so far. I just hope all the hurricanes miss us like last year.
William - It really has been all about contradictions these recent years. I'm beginning to think the Gods are crazy:-)
Fred - I can handle the sound of rain, but when it comes with high winds, that's when I get nervous. Yesterday, we had it all - Rain, Wind, Hail. . .all in copious amounts! I feel for Cajun country in Louisiana right now. It's one thing to have the Gods not shine on you, but to have the Corp of Engineers decide your way of life is less valuable than that of others, has got to be a hard pill to swallow. I understand the "for the greater good" idea, but it's still difficult.
John - I hope the hurricanes miss you too. It seems that for the most part, other parts of the country are bearing the brunt of the weather this year. . .THUS FAR!
Myrl,
Here in RI the weather is also very unusual. We are having rain all week, and usually in May we are having glorious spring days!
I think your 8 yr old neighbor may have a handle on it:) It's not that far fetched and is the ONLY explanation I have seen so far!!
Myrl~
A year of contradictions...indeed...and insights...Pain is the great dissolver of illusion.
Myrl - beautiful photos ..... as for the contradictions I am sure we will see a lot more this year ..... they are predicting a long hot summer of us around here.
Hey Myrl, I love those photos! So peaceful, I can in vision myself visiting there :) Yes shifts in how the patterns of nature have been off the charts all over the world....a change surly is coming.
