Hutto Texas: One Old Window

By
Industry Observer

Texas has some great old buildings, frequently marginalized by the big, new shopping centers that seem to crop up everywhere.

Hutto Texas - an old windowHutto, just a little northeast of Austin, is no exception. The old downtown is just a few blocks, and just a few buildings.

This one window was just too marvelous not to share.

Don't you wonder: how many generations of business owners or children-of-patrons have peered out these windows? What did they see in the street - big SUVs, or Model-Ts?

Alison - I love old buildings like this; they're so classic looking.  The flowers are a nice touch too.  I have a borrower who's looking for a downtown (LA) loft.  However, he doesn't just want one of the brand, spanking, shiny, new buildings that have been going up for the last couple of years, he wants one of those mixed use buildings with "character", which are not only an inspectors nightmare but underwriters general disdain for so many of these buildings because of their "character".

Ohh my Alison, your post just under this had pictures of dead rats.  Gross......  Ok, let me get my train of thought back.................  I really like your picture here of the old windows.   Getting a good shot of some of the older buildings here in Colorado Springs has been difficult.  Here, you have demonstrated the art of focusing on one small part.

This picture is great.  The flowers on the window sill add to the charm.

Hi Donne - Don't you wish we (as a country) took better care of the buildings with character? They shouldn't have to be an inspectors nightmare, but I'm sure a lot of them are!

Sondra - yeah, the rats. Ick, very much ick. Had to share it, though!

Debe - thank you - her photos are awesome! :-)

Hi Rich - The peeling paint on this one just screamed "postcard". It might have a next life as some digital art.
