I was glancing at the box scores from last night's Major League Baseball games this morning, I saw where a relief pitcher for the Royals gave up 14 runs against the Indians in a game. I thought of something that I heard Tim McCarver say about what it took to be a great relief pitcher in the Major Leagues, he said good stuff, and a really short memory. You have to forget your failures and work on today's game. There is nothing more useless today, than what you did yesterday.
In baseball that may be true. In life, I think that part of it is very true, he just didn't go deep enough. The mistakes that we made yesterday and didn't learn from, they are useless to us, the ones that we recognized and learned from, they are what our experience and ability comes from. No one who has ever succeeded in anything did so without failing somewhere along the way. I found another quote that really tells us what it is to fail and move on:
"Dwell not on the past. Use it to illustrate a point, then leave it behind. Nothing really matters except what you do NOW in this instant of time. From this moment onwards you can be an entirely different person, filled with love and understanding, ready with an outstretched hand, uplifted and positive in every thought and deed." ~ Eileen Caddy
In my mind, you can only change the mistakes that you recognize and remedy. But I believe she is right, you can choose today to be what you want to be and move forward. Not by dwelling on our mistakes but in learning the lesson from them and then leaving them behind. Have a great day!
