Tuesday's Thought....Memory.....

By
Real Estate Agent with Aubrey and Associates Realty

I was glancing at the box scores from last night's Major League Baseball games this morning, I saw where a relief pitcher for the Royals gave up 14 runs against the Indians in a game.  I thought of something that I heard Tim McCarver say about what it took to be a great relief pitcher in the Major Leagues, he said good stuff, and a really short memory.  You have to forget your failures and work on today's game.  There is nothing more useless today, than what you did yesterday.

In baseball that may be true.  In life, I think that part of it is very true, he just didn't go deep enough.  The mistakes that we made yesterday and didn't learn from, they are useless to us, the ones that we recognized and learned from, they are what our experience and ability comes from.  No one who has ever succeeded in anything did so without failing somewhere along the way.  I found another quote that really tells us what it is to fail and move on:

"Dwell not on the past. Use it to illustrate a point, then leave it behind. Nothing really matters except what you do NOW in this instant of time. From this moment onwards you can be an entirely different person, filled with love and understanding, ready with an outstretched hand, uplifted and positive in every thought and deed." ~ Eileen Caddy

In my mind, you can only change the mistakes that you recognize and remedy.  But I believe she is right, you can choose today to be what you want to be and move forward.  Not by dwelling on our mistakes but in learning the lesson from them and then leaving them behind.  Have a great day!

A short memory is very handy when you are dealing with an agent, or lender that is aggravating you. It takes an adjustment in 'tude to keep going.

Have a great day, Tony and Darcy, thanks for the reminder to move forward with a great attitude. (Can you tell I have a problem with someone right now?)

Great thought for the day Tony. If we all continually carry our past mistakes on our backs...we will wear out too soon.

Tony  You are correct, but there are also times I do recall a oast mistake to prevent it from happening again.  However, I do not let them ruin my progress

Hi Tony,

That is a great quote!  But sometimes it is hard to let go of the past.  One of my favorite quotes is, "The happiest people have the shortest memories."  But it is vital to learn from mistakes and move forward.

Tony, the example you gave about the relief pitcher philosophy will be something I remember.  That is a great reference.

Sometimes in Real Estate, we make mistakes that are expensive and costly.  It happens.  I had an experienced agent once tell me to chalk it up as 'tuition' in the school of life, and move on.  This viewpoint has carried me through some challenging times.

The highlights on Sports Center were quite interesting, too. Sometimes it’s just not your night. Move on.

Randy, Thank you!

David, Very true, let them go!

Rob, That is key to do it all the time, it is really hard for me to do, but you have to do it.

Michael, Thank you!

Toni, You're so right!  You have to have a short memory to continue working with the other professionals that we need to!

Steve & Jan, You are right, it will wear you out!

Karen, That is exactly why you have to learn from it first, then let it go, don't keep beating yourself up over it.

Lisa, That is one of my biggest issues, I have a hard time getting past mistakes.

Michael, The tuition to the school of life can really get expensive!  Thanks for the comment!

Jim, Very true!

Thanks all for commenting!
