The big secret about Pueblo is that there are no secrets! I've said it before and I'll say it again. Everybody knows everybody else, everyone is related to everyone else and they all deny it! For a county of approx 125,000 Pueblo is a small town. A large number of the natives have never left the county except for special circumstance. Pueblo is the only town I've ever been in where it is more unusual to not see somebody you know at the store, restaurant or dentist than it is see a familiar face.

But in my opinion this is what makes a community. It's sort of like when you got in trouble at school and your parents knew about it before you got home. Pueblo has this great communication going all the time. There is no need for a telephone book. There is only one degree of separation. And how you greet a stranger in Pueblo? Ask them "Where did you go to school?" The answer will tell a native everything they want to know about you.

Awhile back I quizzed somebody who was trying to sell me advertising. "If your wife called and asked you to bring home a cake for a special occasion and oh by the way the kitchen sink is dripping, what would you do?" The smile on his face was answer enough. We all know who makes the best cakes in town and one of the local plumbers has a dozen trucks running around town with advertising wrapped on their trucks.

So what is the big secret about Pueblo? Everybody knows you and most everything about you. There are no secrets.

Small town living...you can't beat it. My town has a population of about 8,000 and that is real small.

Aaaah, sounds like a GREAT place!  It does sound like you all know each other very well!

Dena, OK you got me on the cake and dripping bathtub.  I thought that the bathtub was dripping because it had been filled a little to much for a different purpose, and that the cake was for a little snack afterwards :)

Monika - Pueblo is the biggest small town I've ever been in. But I grew up in Los Angeles and now live in Rockvale -pop 500 without the dogs.

Sarah - Pueblo is a great place and you either settle in and make friends or you don't.

George - I have no idea what you are talking about, but I love you anyway. Think I might be having a blonde day. My broker says I only have blonde days 24/7 and it only shows most of the time.

Dena, come back to it later and read it again ..... Maybe the blond will wear off as the day goes on ...... LOL

If I thought you were still at work I'd call you right now and make you explain it to me.

I really like the way you portray your community Dena. You got me hungry for cake but then realized that if I had some, the whole town would know :) And that's a problem because I can't stop at just one piece!

Hi Dena, did someone say cake?  :)  Just kidding.  I love the small town atmosphere...a lot more friendly and fun!!  Sounds like Pueblo is a great place!

There is nothing like a small town!  I was with my Dad who was visiting from AZ the other day, and we went to Leadville for lunch.  I saw three people I knew there; two in the restaurant and one on the sidewalk.  I never know anyone in Leadville!  (They were leaf peeping, up from Frisco for the day).  My Dad said, "do you know everyone here too?"  Small towns are funny, and our jobs get us knowing more people than most.
