Get more Exposure for your Blog posts by Joining Groups

A quick Tutorial

I recently wrote a post about Saving your Posts in the Draft mode for later publication. I was shocked by the number of bloggers who did not Posting to Groupsknow about this feature.

The post was created because I was helping an AR member. While writing the explanation in an email, it occurred to me to just write a post.

Fast forward. The same AR member, who so far has remained nameless, is not putting his posts into groups. I've been nagging him about groups for weeks months.

Yesterday I left a comment on his post and finally said "Groups Conrad, Groups! Am I going to have to write a blog post about this???"

He answered "YES", so here it is:

How to post your blog in Groups on ActiveRain

The first thing you need to do is Join some Groups. There are several ways to do this. Click on the Group button n the tool bar. It will take you to the Group page.

On the left will be the Groups you can choose from and the Groups that you're already in. You can drop the window and scroll through the groups, choosing the ones that sound interesting to you.

Posting to Groups

On the Right side of the page, will be the Most Active Groups.

See the diagram below here:

Posting to Groups

Assuming you don't belong to any groups already, you're going to pick out groups you would like to join. Let's start with 5, but pick however many you want.

You can select from the popular groups on the right side by clicking on one of them.

Once you're in the group,  the group's rules will be posted on the left side along with the Founder of the Group's name, the number of members in the group and how many posts have been posted by the group.

Under that will be the "Join Group" tab. Click on that and you now belong to that group.

Posting to Groups

Another way to find groups to join is to look at the bottom of a post that you're reading.

After the Tags, but before the Comments, will be a list of groups that the post has been put in. Sometimes I'll discover groups I don't know about by reading a post that I like. You can click on the link right there in the post and go to the group. Posting to Groups

Now that you've joined some groups, they will show up in your My Groups area on your post. It's important to remember that you can only put the blog post in 5 groups.

Posting to Groups

You want to make sure that the blog post is relevant to that group.

Don't put listings and market reports in groups that are about something else. the Group Moderators may delete the post.

The biggest reason to post to groups is to make your blog post visible to more ActiveRain members. Unless someone is subscribed to you, or you're featured on the home page, you post scrolls off the blog page quickly sometimes. The Scroll time on a Group can be much slower, thus exposing your post to more people.

Try it. Let me know how it works.

Happy Blogging.

Thank you Connie for the informative post. Karen Stone from Fort Worth, Tx pointed this out to me a few weeks ago. I never would have thought about it.

Larry and Shelia - Spring Cleaning is never a bad idea!

Joe -I'm finding that I'm doing this more and more!

Fernando- I've been deleting the ones I don't particularly like.

Richard - You're absolutely right. I've featured many posts in the May Challenge group that never made it to the front page, but were good nonetheless!

Barbara - I've gotten lost in groups before. They can be such a fun read!

Anne - Nope. Join as many as you want. Call me if you need help with something. Really, I don't mind.

Brian - I look at it this way. You're also building relationships with Realtors in the group who could be an excellent source of referrals. But if you're just interested in the public, maybe not.

Michael - That's what I think too.

Cindy - I've already told Conrad that pictures are next. We need to perk up that text of his! LOL

Krystal -so much to learn, so little time! LOL

Virginia - If you read everyday, you'll learn all kinds of things, I promise!

Markita - No, you only get extra points for posting in the ActiveRain Channel. Exposure to more members is what you get. Sometimes the group moderator my feature you in that group. Then everyone is looking in the group sees your post.

Howard and Susan - It's like everything. There's a reason why they're there.

Ilan - I don't know when I started doing that, but I've found so great groups there.

Loreena - Thank you.

Richie - :) you're a nut!

I like the groups because your blogs can be seen by a lot more people. There are so many, though, that sometimes it's hard to choose which one(s) to add to.

Thank you for this info!  Makes so much sense...that posting to a group will expose your post to more people for "longer" versus a general post that will probably disappear super fast due to the massive blogging on this site.  It makes so much sense when you spell it out.  YES, you do need to write a post on this stuff.  Some of us dumb bunnies will never get it any other way!  Thanks!

Eric - That's why I often look at the people I read a lot to see where they're posting. You can find some new to you groups that way.

Jayne - I doubt you're a dumb bunny! I remember all the different things there were to learn at the beginning. After 3 years, I'm still learning!

Connie,

Thanks for the email and blog post.  I did not know how important groups were.  I just joined 7 groups.  This will encourage me to blog more than I thought I was capable of doing.
