52 Comments on The Naked Truth | Facing Your Blogging Fears
Good post- im still learning the ins and outs of the process but I find that whole thing interesting.
Rebekah, excellent post for overcoming the fear of blogging. I thought the audience was supposed to be naked not the speaker. LOL
One way it to through AR University and
Seems to me you are doing a great job. Keep up the good work.
You are doing great! Don't be afraid to blog and show your true colors. Be yourself. You're going to be JUST FINE
Rebekah - I think you're right. It's easiest for most people to start with simple easy, getting to know you blogs. After you find "your voice", you can move on to harder topics.
ActiveRain is a great place to dive in to the blogging world. People are usually pretty nice and hold back from harsh comments.
I've seen many here who rank very highly. Their efforts consist mostly of market reports, wordless Wednesdays or silent Sundays (both of which they post enough words to get the obligatory points). I want more from my blogging efforts than that. Sometimes I succeed, sometimes I don't.
Gretchen - You have the right idea. You don't have to cater to everyone, just the people buying and selling in your area!
Renee - You hit the nail on the head! It's all about being committed to consistently blogging. It's like anything else, if it doesn't excite you - you won't keep doing it and its a worthless venture.
Debb - Passion is super imprtant, especially when it comes to consistency. Don't force the topics. Just keep at it with what you're comfortable with like your favorite restaurant or a fun place to visit in yoru city.
Mike - Yep - I am definitely my own worst critic. If you can get by yourself - you're good to go! :)
Rich - That's so true! The engagement and pat on the back is a great push forward!
Rebekah,
Ok, I feel better now! This blogging thing has really been a challenge. It shouldn't be, however. I've created weekly newsletters, I've worked in advertising and design, I love to communicate via email with friends and clients. But blogging is differenct. I'm going to keep at it!
Every time a Realtor answers a question asked by a buyer or seller - their answer is a verbal blog. Just put it in writing.
Confidence is what is all about
Congrats Michele on sticking with it! I just take it one day at a time and try not to overwhelm myself with the big question of "what am I going to blog about today??" Just let it come naturally.
JM - Confidence definitely takes time and comes with support from those around us. That's what makes this community so terrific!
I do believe blog postings have to provide benefit to the readers. It can't be just about a post made in frustration, just to get it off your chest. It's got to be educational, entertaining, or beneficial in some manner to the recipient. Drafting a blog must consider 'take-aways". Thanks for your 'helpful' thoughts!
I agree that every time I answer a question, the answer and information is worthy of a blog. I guess being a teacher in my past helps.
Rebekah,
You've done a great job commenting on responses! That's so much a part of this! I thank you for your words of encouragement. Cheers, Michele
Hi Rebekah, I found that the May challenge is extremely helpful. If you are going to do something like that you do not have the luxury of overthinking. You just start writing.
Dave - You've got the right idea...just take the everyday questions you're asked and turn them into a Q&A type blog.
William - It would be nice if we could just vent every once in a while, but you're right - our blogging needs to be constructive and beneficial to the reader.
Thank you Michele and please email anytime you have a question or need a little encouragement. It's what this community is all about!
Great post Rebekah, as a newbiew you've inspired me to get a little more personal and not be afraid with my next blog...which I'll do tomorrow after I get some sleep! ;-)
Rebekah - As another newbie to AR, I just attended a workshop last evening through a local womens business association and I realize that I need to get over the fear of putting myself out there and just start blogging. Usually great content runs through my head while driving so I guess I just need to start recording myself as a drive so as not to forget when it's time to jump on the AR. As posted, it's just time to dive in. Thanks for all the advice AR.
