If you've ever wondered why some realtors discount and some don't you certainly wouldn't be alone. Many people wonder why one realtor might offer great discounts while another makes absolutely no mention of discounting at all. It's important to understand that there are aspects of being a realtor that are different than most of us expect until we start looking seriously at the profession.

The reason why some realtors discount and some don't is often based on personal preference and choice of the realtor. Since realty is actually about self employment versus salaried employment, there are financial aspects of the profession which are difficult for many new realtors to adjust to. The commission based realty provides an income only through the sale of a house. In all honesty, about 75% of all new realtors end up turning to another profession by the end of their first year. This is because it's very difficult to get the financial balance necessary in order to become a successful realtor.

Sometimes a discount can be out of need. You might be offered a discount if the realtor is getting a bit desperate to get properties moving. This is usually found in the newer realtors, but that is not always the case. Moreover, more established realtors generally don't need to put in quite the same amount of effort to get their listing. A lot of their listings tend to come from referrals, neighbors, and others in the industry who are just not able to make it. This opens up a new idea to getting the properties to move through discounting.

Of course, if you're working with someone you know it is possible that you would be offered a discount based on personal assessment or friendship. Having a friend as a realtor can be beneficial, but using them only out of loyalty to the friendship can actually cause problems. If you haven't been able to get your home marketed and are in serious need of a big market push, a friend may be the last thing you want. You would naturally be better with the professional relationship that you need from your realtor. However, when business is tougher and the need for sales comes through, having a friend to help you out can be quite advantageous.

There are many reasons why some realtors discount and some don't. If the discount works for you then you are in good shape. If it is to cover up poor service or keep a friendship intact, then it's possible that it's just not worth the discount. Always check and be sure that you're being offered a fair deal.
