Christ Lutheran Nursery School-Pre-schools in Catonsville, MD
I am a working mom. When Sydney was born, I was working as a mortgage loan processor at my sister's company. I was blessed to be able to bring my daughter to work with me since she was only 8 weeks old. When Sydney started to crawl, I began working with my brother, eventually becoming a loan officer.
As a mother of "advanced maternal age", it was very important to me to spend as much time with my daughter as I could. I loved my job, I was good at it. I had a great support at home and at the office that allowed me to do both. Sydney had not been away from me her whole life, unless she was with family. Sending my daughter to pre-school was a huge decision for my husband and I. Sydney and I spent lots of time reading, playing, and learning but I felt that she needed more interaction with other kids, not just at the local playground or library, but in a classroom setting.
I checked out Christ Lutheran Nursery School on the recommendation of a friend. We went on a tour of the school, walking into the 3's classroom. The kids were in circle time, Syd (only 2) walked right in and sat on the empty chair. She never even looked back at me, but answered questions and raised her hand, and fit right in. The teacher and children welcomed her completely, as Claire Broglie, the administator told me more about the school.
A small, intimate school, enrollment is typically between 80 and 100 three and four year olds each academic year. The teachers have all been teaching for many years and truly adore what they do. It is evidenced in every interaction with the kids and with their families.
By the time we left there that day, I knew CLNS was the place for us. Sydney knew too. As we left she said, "Mama, When do I get to come to my new school?" I am so grateful for the recommendation. The teachers and administrative staff of Christ Lutheran are some of the most loving and caring professionals I have ever encountered. Sydney learned so much, and came home with stories of all they had done. I give pre-school teachers all the credit in the world. When volunteering at events or going on class trips, the best description I can give is "herding cats". The teachers and teaching assistants did that with such an obvious love for each of their charges, that it made my heart sing.
Christ Lutheran is a God-Centered school that will give your child a chance to learn through play. They are given projects to complete with help, and they get the opportunity to choose some activities. Each week they have music time, learning songs, having fun with instruments, and feeling the rythym, living the joy!
While Sydney was at Christ Lutheran we baked bread, went to a pumpkin patch and Clark's Ellioak Farm. We attended a children's theatre production and more. Often, the mom's would schedule play dates at a church playground just down the street after school. The mom's would chat while the kids loved spending extra time with their friends.
Every other week the children attend chapel where they hear a bible story, with a message geared specifically to their age groups. The children learn about charitable giving through chapel donations that are donated to area folks or groups in need. They completed a trike-a-thon for St. Jude's. There are some fundraisers. I think that is to be expected as your child enters any school.
The Christmas Chapel and the end of year program are not to be missed. Seriously, grandparents, aunts, uncles and neighbors will probably shed a tear! One of my favorite events is the Mother's luncheon. I won't give you the details, because you just have to experience it for yourself. Bring the tissues, trust me! The year Sydney graduated, we all received a music CD. Syd wore out the first one, listening to it every night before bed. We had to ask them to burn us another. It is still one of her favorites.
Just writing this post, and remembering Syd's time at Christ Lutheran, it makes me sad to know that I don't have any more children that can attend this wonderful school. We have been blessed to find a wonderful school for Sydney for Kindergarten through 8th grade, a perfect continuation of her education began with such love and joy at CLNS.
