Active Rain Awards

By
Managing Real Estate Broker with San Diego Previews Real Estate CA BRE# 01101958

Rob Lang wrote a provocative blog about Active Rain awarding points for earned real estate designations (GRI, ABR, CRS, etc). I suggested that perhaps Active Rain could award its own designations.  After giving the idea some thought and play, a few possible designation awards for Rainers emerged (feel free to add more!):

ARM -- Active Rain Mentor awarded to those who share encouragement, tips and tools to make us all better real estate professionals and bloggers. Nominees? We could start with Mary McKnight , Maureen Francis , Bryant Tutas , Kristal Kraft , Damion Flynn , Bill French  and the Christian Real Estate Network . I also like Karen Hurst  and Maureen McCabe  for their constant and kind encouragement of fellow bloggers. Others?

ARCH--Active Rain Carnival Host awarded to those who host carnivals and contests for AR members. Jim Cronin , Maureen Francis and Mary McKnight  come to mind. Others?

ART-- Active Rain Tastemakers. This designation would be awarded to those who generously offer their advice and tips for staging homes, websites and blogs. Craig Schiller could probably lead the list and nominate others. The Lovely Wife  might also voice a ROAR here! Others?

ARE-- Active Rain Educators. These are the people who constantly share their knowledge about real estate and make us all better Realtors, lenders and related service providers. I am in awe of these professionals who have so kindly shared so much. Brian Brady (once awarded) could probably lead the nominating committee for lenders, as might Jeff Belonger . Website educators? After receiving the awards themselves, the nominators  might be  Lenn Harley  (PR Queen), Angus Woodbury  (branding and MOO!), Kristal Kraft (sticky site). Real estate basics? The Honorable Jim Lee  could lead the charge. Others?

Nomination blogs such as this are dicey, because I know I have inadvertantly left out some very important contributors to this forum. It is unintentional and apologies are offered in advance.  Please feel free to add categories, nominees and ideas.

OMG I saw this yesterday but never read any of the comments.  Thanks for the mention, Roberta.  Angus lured me back to read these by commenting about it on Rob Lang's blog... and whining for points for other designations he has.  ; -)

I think awards are important.  I also covet your Lucky Cowpie award...

You guys left some fun posts. I am serious about this, though, so I hope not to rain on any parades. How about a serious designation or certification? Blogging and research takes a lot of time. I think participants such as the above named should be recognized for #1--service, #2--marketing, #3--Educating.

Rich: Not a bad idea--and monthly it should be. The AR audience is growing quickly and hugely and awards would put further meaning into points and participation.

Suzi: It's all Craig's fault. I wrote a seriouc blog and the first thing Craig did was come in and crack every one up. I wouldn't be surprised if Matt and Company come up with some fitting and more serious awards in the near future. In the meantime, the kids will play!

Maureen: Think nothing of it! I will always be grateful to my Active Rain sponsor.

Jeff: You're back in blazing color!

Jeff - if you mean the .gif then, yes, go for it.

Suzi - Of course, you're right... blogging and research takes a lot of time and recognition is always appreciated.  However, I could understand why Matt & Co. don't want to be put in the position of being... how did he put it?... "the decider".  No matter who is chosen to receive an "official" award, there will always be people that disagree on who the winner should be. Just my humble opinon, of course, but I think "official" awards can be equally as damaging as beneficial to the community.  No doubt, others feel differently.

Maureen - I think you meant to say that Angus is "moo-ing" for points.  LOL!!!

Of course that is what I meant Leanne!

I think awards will have to  be something like a "digg" system where the community votes or something where the "Matt's" don't have to decide.  The well written, well researched entries will be awarded.  Or it could just end up a popularity contest depending on how you look at it.

Rob - You are the new guy with the post that got Roberta going... so no one will pick on you. If anybody was whining/mooing it was me, however I prefer to think of it as "negotiating from a weak position"

I think that anything that can result in points is going to get participation from the Active Rainers.  If it's designations - you're going to see a whole lot more "designees"!

Wow, what fun pics along the way!  I think those that are truly contributing and helping others really could use their own designation.  It's amazing that we have so many who give so freely of their time and resources....

I'm watching CNBC right now and NEW HOMES in October 2006 inventory are up more than 55% this Oct when compared to last October (2005).  WOW !!!!

Always,

Mission: ImpossibleMission: Impossible award - most harrowing Night Writerand unrealistic deal story (Broker Bryant might have a lock on this based on what I read about his clients).

Also, the Knight Rider, er...Night Writer award for the last featured post of every day.  (I know Craig has a photo or two with at least this much chest showing, but there should not be any award for that or things will get quite out of hand...).

Roberta,

Thankyou for the very kind words! Looks like people would like to see some sort of Award program here..

Maybe after everyone came up with all the categories, everyone could vote on them and then everyone could send in a vote for the favorite person. Voting is good as long as there are no chads involved.

I was going to nominate Rich Jacobson and Carole Cohen, but I see someone else already has.

As usual, another great post by you.
