This is a light hearted post for sure. Nothing deep here, but my husband had this idea a while back that when we close a property transaction, we should give the principle a year's trash service. We could put stickers on the receptacles that have our logo on them and are covered with weatherproof tape of some sort.

His point was that everyone puts out the trash weekly and having this service paid for by our company would remind the client of us at least once each week...especially since it was paid for.

I thought I wouldn't like my company name to be associated with trash, but that it was a kind of good idea. I'd like to know what you think because Tom, (my husband), comes up with some GREAT marketing ideas that I would never think of.

Would you think favorably about this type of service as a closing gift? I suppose we could cap on the "green" thing by providing recycling bins, but if our clients aren't recyclers, they'd likely think of it as a pain.

That's an interesting idea but I'd really have to kind of laugh if I saw another real estate agent in our area doing that. Just being honest with you -- I certainly see where you are coming from with the idea but I think that you could possibly take the concept and apply it to something else.

Definitely a unique idea. It might just work. I don't think I would like my name associated with trash, but thats my opinion.

See...that's where the dilemma comes in. It DOES make you remember the company, but for what? Thanks Guys...cable tv wouldn't be bad, we could give them remote holders!

I would pass on that marketing idea, but the word would get out and maybe it would become a great hit. It has great possibilites, I just would not want my name on the trash bin. But that is how ideas make us big.

Perhaps you could put a spin on the idea somehow.  You are fix and flip people right?  Perhaps what you put on the trash can could be some remark about turning trash into treasure.  Anytime people see a property that is "trash" they would think of turning into a treasure with your services.   Could be good  :)

Hello Mededith,

This is Tom  I am Lania's husband and I think that is great idea. Just think about thousands of cans with some catch pharse and then my site www.SpringsInvestor.com on them. Wow maybe just get some decals made and pay BFI or Waste Managment a small fee to place them. People all over town will see the phrase on the way to work. I say get a little crazy with the pharses so people will look for them to see what you are saying. You know those Gieko ads are so dumb you can not help but like them and guess what they ended up getting my business. I don't know I sometimes think out of the box one time I said to advertise on toilet paper and pass it out to all the local business in town. I know it sounds crazy but I am sure people would just flip out and not believe someone would do this. But I am sure they would remember my name. Wheather it is good or bad they would remember. LOL

See what I have to work with here? He's a genius, but as you may know, a genius thinks slightly unconventionally.
