Read John 14:1-6
Jesus said to His Disciples: "Do not let your hearts be troubled. You have faith in God; have faith also in me...I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you..."
Thank you, Lord for the power of your love. I trust that you have overcome the world and that I can overcome in you. Help me never to be discouraged.
Charles, I don't believe the apostles ever understood what he said until they saw him raised from the dead and then later ascend to heaven.

If it was not so, Christ would have told us! Since He said He would go to prepare a place for us, but that He would also return for us, that we may be with Him there also - I believe it.
