El Cajon, CA. A Real Estate Agent was shot (allegedly) shot buy the home seller. So it goes that the seller and the agent were arguing about offers on the sellers property. A neighbors description and recollection of the agent do not pose a pretty picture of agents. However if the seller did shoot the agent over an argument about the sale of the property, that was just uncalled for and unnecessary. Other avenues could be used to resolve and settle disagreements and arguments. I do not know the whole story other than what I read, but I as an agent would never openly argue with a client. Instead, I would hear the seller out and point out the facts and what might be best for him, I would end by saying "in the end the decision is yours and you have to live with your choice, I am merely here to educate, inform, and advise you." If I were unhappy having had worked for that person I might refer him to someone else. If I were a seller and was unhappy with my agent, I think I would just let our relationship dissolve, and not work with that agent again. Arguing with sellers, buyers, or anyone for that matter a little unnerving for me. You never know what kind of person you are dealing with, stable, unstable, or someone with little impulse control. I do not place blame on either the seller or the agent in this case, however I rather pointed out what I might have done. I would be pleased to hear what you think, and what you might do in this or another similar situation.

I read that article today.  All I can say is I hope it did not happen regardless of what they were arguing over.

I just read an article about this same story. It's really crazy what some people will resort to in times of desperation.

It's very unprofessional to argue with anyone.  If the shoe doesn't fit, don't wear it, let someone else.

Incredible.  I'm sure we don't know all of the details; but it is an incredibly sad, sad story for all those involved.

I haven't heard about the shooting, is the agent still alive? We've had tenants in the past who were volatile and we've never stayed to argue with them, just walk away or take it to the judge. Sad.

I have walked away, happily, from screaming (drunk) clients and folks who didn't listen to my advice, and then when the time for the closing came, blamed me for their bills and their lack of communication with the attorney, cost them thousands of dollars. I worked with her Brother, no issue.  He listened to my recommendations, and they worked.  You never really know what will happen, until it does.  You can only do the best you know how and keep lots of notes with the file. Documentation is key when you have troubled clients, not confrontation.

I thank all of you for your comments on my post. I think that this is a very serious, and we put ourselves in all kind of odd situations. We should have an awareness of our surroundings and get an idea of who we are working with at all times. While we can not be sure who is dangerous and who is not we should not put ourselves in further danger by arguing or fighting with people. In addition, let people know where you are, where you are going, and with who you are going with. I remember a story of another agent who was killed in a home he was showing and was not found until days later. We can potentially become targets for those who think we might swimming in money or just have something that they could gain from us. Be-careful, and Watch your surroundings carefully.
