Is It ADHD or Just Inattention?
Presented by Dr. Marcia Eckerd
This talk will focus on attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder. Parents often ask how they can really know the difference between ADHD and rambunctious child's play, or a child who just doesn't like to pay attention. At this program Dr. Eckerd will talk about what makes ADHD, ADHD.
Dr. Marcia Eckerd is a licensed psychologist working with children, teens, families and schools for over 25 years. She's on the Board of the CT Association of Children with Learning Disabilities and Smart Kids with LD, is on the voluntary staff in Psychiatry at Norwalk Hospital, and has a regular blog, "People Skills" for Psychology Today.
This program is co- sponsored by the Connecticut Association for Children and Adults with Learning Disabilities (CACLD) and the Black Rock Branch Library.
About Speak Up for Kids!
Speak Up for Kids! is a nationwide education campaign during National Children's Mental Health Awareness Week (May 1-7, 2011), developed by the Child Mind Institute and the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (AACAP), and sponsored by Hunter Boot and Parents magazine. Hundreds of child and adolescent psychiatrists, as well as other mental health professionals, will educate parents and teachers through talks, flyers, op-eds, Q&As, and social media. Together, they will create awareness in communities across the nation that early diagnosis and intervention are key to children's success in school, with friends, and at home.
