For years people thought Encinitas was just a sleepy, beautiful surf village in northern San Diego county. Encinitas has gorgeous beaches, Swami, D Street, Stonesteps, Grandview and Moonlight. The laid back vibe and terrific beaches has lured many famous surfers, skateboarders and even snowboarders to call Encinitias home. Shopping is fabulous here also. So many cute boutique's and upscale surf shops (funky ones too) you could really shop till you drop. In the last few years Encinitas has developed a bit more of an urban lifestyle while still retaining the original charm of the lazy beach town feel. A Whole Foods and some urban style condos are opening to lend to the urban feel.
There is a definite spiritual side to Encinitas too. The Self Realization Fellowship Meditation Gardens and Hermitage dates back to 1937. This very special, lovely landmark was built for Paramahamsa Yogananda.
