There are always rumors when change happens. When people quit or get fired there is always innuendo and most often, hurt feelings. People act those feelings out in different ways.

I think that change can be quite positive and as long as the blogging platform continues to draw the customers, I am all in! And the worst thing one can do is to assume that they are indispensable. No one is.
Fred-Even with Brad. Yes, he was a huge part of AR but AR was here before they hired Brad. There were those who thought that AR would fall apart when Caleb left and yet, Bob Stewart has done a stellar job and more in taking Caleb's place.
Hi Katerina - Change always happens in any company including high technology companies in their early phases and growth phases. Now that Market Leader owns 51% of ActiveRain, they can and have been providing additional resources that they may not have been willing to provide when they were in a minority ownership situation.
For those people who want to understand more of the current ownership structure and other interesting financial and membership information about ActiveRain, see my post from early May 2011 http://activerain.com/blogsview/2285591/the-activerain-and-market-leader-inc-relationship-revenue-and-paying-members which I had written based primarily based on information filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission.
Well said. I understand how the employees may feel...change is always hard. I've lived through corporate restructures for Fortune 500 companies...and it's often harder when it's a smaller company. But, what you say in rpivate/think is different vs. what you say in public. As you've worked in more places/mature more, you get this concept more. Don't burn any bridges and best to take the high road.
Katrina, I agree the younger generation does not always realize how something put out there can and will come back to "bite" them. Transition is part of life and I have no doubt Active Rain is here to stay
Yes, there is a lot of change right now at ActiveRain, but I'm confident they are doing their best to keep it the vibrant community that it is. I appreciate Niki's updates and his honesty about what is going on and the things they are working on to improve the technology and infrastructure behind the platform.
As far as Doug and Steve's departure goes, we don't know really what happened. That they gave notice and left on the same day doesn't necessarily mean that was their intention. We may never know what the conversations were after they gave notice. I am grateful for all they did here and wish them the best in their next endeavor.
Thank you all for your comments. I went to Tristan's end of season baseball party today and got heat stroke so I am feeling quite under the weather at the moment. I doubt if I have the energy to return comments today. I did read every comment and appreciate the conversation. Katerina
Katerina, very well said. ActiveRain community may be a blogging platform - as such, but it means a lot to me. A commitment that has changed me in last 8 months (or else I would not have been commenting here at 1:30 AM whereas I have a full day of scheduled appointments on Sunday...)
Feel better soon, Katerina. We cannot afford that you to fall sick!
Thanks for gtaking the time to blog about this. I have noticed comments that have struck me as odd and I haven't been around Active Rain long enough to get into the politics. I'm glad you brought it up. I hope people read it and learn from it. All the best.
I haven't been on much lately, but I have seen a few posts about some of the recent changes. With any business, change is inevitable though.
I am grateful you wrote this blog Katerina because I saw both Steve and Doug at the NAR Midyear trade show and was surprised that Doug and Steve left without giving notice a week later. I read a previous post that you were recommending another platform to supplement blogging on A/R. I then began to wonder if it was going to be a replacement for Active Rain. Therefore, I was looking for some input from you on this matter. Hope you recover soon from your heat stroke.
Well, thank the Good Lord YOU'RE not going anywhere. Whew! Change is inevitable. I just ask (and wrote a blog about it a long while back) Who Do You Have in Your Lifeboat? That's who matters. The ones that have your back.
Praful- Ah, this is not good. I have been sick for days now. I know my body very well and this is not pleasant right now. I am moving forward the best that I can right now. Katerina
I was moved to blog about this today myself because of some emails I have recieved. The IT industry, like real estate, has lots of movement. That's just how it is. I can think of 4-5 other things that are red flags that are way more considerable than the reather benign and normal personnel changes.
Katerina -
Pardon my ignorance, but who are/were Doug and Steve? What did they do?
