Things I Don't Get

Since this weekend is projected to be the end by some, I decided to leave for posterity my short list of Things I Don't Get. I was inspired to publish my list based on another blog post I read from 2008. Wow, 2008 seems so long ago. See the original
things I don't getpost here: http://goo.gl/LVHkr.

I imagine some of these are going to make me sound like a real oldtimer. I thought I'd never be an oldtimer. I remember visiting my grandfather, who seemed like a rather grumpy old guy. Now life had dealt him some setbacks, but I remember never wanting to be as negative about things as he seemed to be.

Now I'm older, and I can now see why Gramps felt as he did about certain things. He just didn't get it, and now in a lot of respects, I don't get some things either. Here is my list:

Body Art and Face Painting-  If you are an infrequent visitor to an art gallery, and don't buy painting for your house or apartment, I guess becoming a movable display is OK. Did we think it odd when Mike Tyson got a facial tattoo? Now thousands have designs on their face and neck. Ask yourself this question-If Mike Tyson is doing it, do you really think this is normal?

MSNBC

Going goo goo for Lady Gaga

People who drive with babies or dogs in their lap

Guys standing in the back of moving pick up trucks

Hogshead cheese

Politicians who use the term-"the American people want, need, or expect" as if the American people are a monolithic group. Different people need, want, or expect different things. Stop making it sound like everyone wants whatever pap you're peddling.

People who block traffic waiting for the parking spots closest to the store. Walking an extra 200 feet will not hurt you.

People who demean service workers.

Driving under the influence of intoxicants. I'd be OK with summary floggings and executions for these low lifers.

Just because I don't get doesn't mean anyone has to change of modify their deal to help me get it. One of the great things about Ameica is everybody is pretty much free to "do your own thing" as long as you don't infringe on anyone else's rights. There will probably always be things that someone will not get. I feel better now.

Wayne -
I just checked - and it appears we are still here... Wait - could be different in your timezone...

And I follow your list of not getting... I'll ad one:

People who apparently can afford a very nice car - but can't figure out to use a $50 handsfree headset with their cell phone... Beats me.

Wayne - how did you get into my head?  I don't get any of these things either!!!   What I do get is that you are a pretty darn good American, my kind of guy!  I enjoyed this and it was very deserving to be featured!

I agree with a lot of your items. Let me particularly embrace the parking spot one. My theory is park far out where you get a good walk in to the store.

Well, we are still here and indeed, as we get older, we begin to understand those words we heard when youngsters that were spoken by parents and grandparents!

Thanks to all my AR friends. I'll be checking your blogs to over the coming days. Just because some people don't get it, doesn't mean it has to outlawed. To each his or her own. Have a great rest of 2011. I pinched myself, felt pain, so they were wrong about the end of time.

I got it...the gist of the blog that is.

What I don't get is:  If someone doesn't get MSNBC...then it is assumed in some replys above that you are a conservative or that you like FOX.

Personally...I don't get MSNBC...don't like it....rarely watch it anymore...and ditto to FOX.

What I really don't get is why politicians...whether Fed, State, County, City, School board...will not do what is best for the constituents who voted them in to be their voice. It seems like it would be so simple but evidently they don't "get" simple.

I agree that demeaning a service worker is not a very productive activity especially when they are handling your food or drink.

Wayne,

I have to agree with you.  Many things I don't get either.  Especially the parking.  Walk the extra distance, it is good for you.

Great post

Wayne, looking at your list makes me think I'm getting real close to being an "old timer"; I just hope I don't get as negative as my dad!

Wayne ~ I don't get most of your list either and completely agree with a lot of it.  One I'd add is the guys who wear the jeans at mid thigh so they can show their boxer shorts.  Do they know how really s....d that looks.

I am a grandfather, so I guess I'm and old guy too.  But I'd rather live in America than anywhere else!!!!
