Can I trust Active Rain?

Services for Real Estate Pros with Hard money lending for investors in NH and MA

A few minutes ago, I wrote a new post with a title, and I carefully crafted the body of the post with formatting and photos.  It took a while.

I added tags, set the status to draft, chose my Channels, Groups and Categories, and clicked Post.

The page reappeared with "You need to enter a title and an entry for this blog post".  AND MY ENTIRE BODY OF THE POST WAS WIPED OUT!!!

The Title was still there, and all my selections, but NO BODY!  All that work down the drain.  Time is precious, especially on a Saturday.   So now I'm writing this post instead, to express my frustration!  How many of you have experienced the same problem?

I write most of my posts in a word document and then copy and paste, just in case there's a problem....

Hi Ann, I have not had that happen, but I see where you are coming from.

Or to post and get a 404 error.  Weekly experience.  AR is having growing pains and they seem to be on my side of the monitor most days.

They use to save the draft.  Wonder what changed to cause this?

Ann,

I'm sorry, I've had versions of that problem but not the same problem.  Unfortunately, my single most common problem is user error, I finish my blog and hit post to group and wipe the whole thing out.  The non-user error problems were usually issues with connectivity on my end or theirs and it really jugs things up.  When I was having a lot of problems I got into the habit of drafting my blog in word, saving it and cutting and pasting into my blog.  More work, less frustration.  Good luck to you.

Tamara

I had that happen yesterday and feel your pain. It's happened other times and I have been thinking that I hit the Control key rather than the shift key and some other letter taking me back a screen.

I always save my post on a work processor before pasting to Active Rain.

Like Barbara #1, always write the post in an external word processor. Then copy to the AR editor. Not only does that avoid total loss of the blog, it also causes you to have a backup outside of AR.

With that said, everyone should report these problems to AR so they can prioritize their list of problems that need to be fixed.

Barbara, Tamara, and James - I guess I'll have to do that from now on.  This is my first experience with the AR technical issues.

Gwen, I haven't seen the 404 screen yet on AR.  Maybe I'm not posting enough.

Edward and Celia - I checked my drafts, hoping it was there, but no luck.

Glenn, I used the mouse to click submit, so I'm sure it wasn't my keyboard error.

Will, thanks for the support, I was feeling very alone, until you all started commenting with similar issues.

Dave, I have just reported, thanks for the suggestion.  I'm going to take your advice also about the back up.

It has happened to me before....I now write it in word and past it to draft. For a two finger writer I need protection. LOL

I learned that lesson the hard way too--lost a couple of posts and it is very frustrating.  If I'm writing an original post on AR I do save it to draft several times during the writing process, but it's best to write in Word then copy and paste to AR. Posts are too precious to lose.

Amy--I see that you have received sympathy and advice as many of us have had the same or similar problems.

Now I notice that your profile picture is missing on your comments here and on other posts.  Follow the suggestion of Dave Halpern #8 comment.  Report the problems to AR staff.  They will get back to you in a somewhat reasonable time frame.  Good luck.

Mary, I can't seem to duplicate the missing picture.  I did report the issues to AR.  They said it was an IE 7 issue.  I told them I'm using IE 8.  They said it was a problem with all of the IE versions.  I gave up, and I'll simply write posts in Word first, like others suggested.  Thanks for your support.
