Last night we ventured out of West Maui to the Humuhumunukunukuapua'a Restaurant at Grand Wailea for the Cakebread Cellars wine dinner. The manager, Tracy Ford had alerted us to the event and we were very happy he did.
Chef Issac of Iron Chef fame prepared a magical feast starting with Oluwalu (local) tomatoes and mozzarella matched with the 2009 Sauvignon Blanc. That was delicious, but the white corn miso with lobester that followed was the show stopper. That was served with the Chardonney.
There was a roast pork loin served with Cakebread Merlot that was to die for and the fourth course was a steak with a Cab, of course.
The company at the table was wonderful, all local except one couple from Long Island. And as it turned our another couple from Kihei were transplants from Long Island. We enjoyed each other so much, we're planning a follow up dinner.
