Gettysburg Pa offers an Art Deco Look on the Battlefield
Okay, so you are headed to Gettysburg Pa, you are gonna spend some time on Gettysburg Battlefield, walk around the quaint town that makes up Historic Gettysburg Pa. You are primed for Civil War history to come at you at a fast and furious pace. You head down Confederate Ave, admiring the Gettysburg historic homes that line the lane on the Battlefield and then it hits you.....what is that. You are now looking at the best example of Art Deco architecture in Gettysburg Pa.
What you are seeing is the Gettysburg Armory building. Built in 1938, and designed by John Hamme, it is a beautiful combination concrete, brick and asphalt. I personally love this building and if I ever won the lottery I would snap this baby up and make my personal residence. The building is on the National Register of Historic Places in Gettysburg Pa, and was originally built for the defense purposes. This building is a perfect display of Art Deco design not only in Gettysburg, but anywhere in the country.
The building really sticks out since it is among a fine collection of historic Civil War homes right on the Gettysburg National Military Park grounds. While visiting the Gettysburg Adams County area be sure and take a moment to stop here and take a closer look at this beautiful building.
