Minnesota Twins Treasure - Harmon Killebrew

This post has struck such a chord with me for several reasons.  For one, my Dad and my Husband were both big Harmon Killebrew fans.  I can remember my Dad would sit in his car and listen to the games when they weren't televised.  They both proclaimed Harmon Killebrew to be a first class player and a first class human being.  I sadly lost my Husband to cancer 12 years ago, and my Dad 4 years ago.  Additionally, my Mom has been waging a battle against cancer and has just gone under Hospice care.  The entire Hospice organization is full of angels here on earth.

Blessings and Prayers are being lifted-up for Mr. Killebrew and his family.

Please add your entreaties and comments to Suzanne's post.

This is an open letter to all Minnesota Twins Fans.

Harmon Killebrew, one of the original members of the Minnesota Twins, has gone into hospice care in Arizona.  He says that he has surrendered to his fight with esophogeal cancer and will spend his remaining time with his wife, Nita.

Harmon, now a young 74, and a coach and mentor to many of the current Twins roster has been struggling with the diagnosis since December of last year.

I am not writing this with any single piece of copy from one news source.  I am writing all of this from my heart because I care.

Harmon Killebrew, while I have never been a baseball fan and most of my friends and family are or were, was on my ruler when I was in fourth grade.

The ruler was bought by my uncle at one of the very first Twins games in the new Metropolitan Stadium, and he was kind enough to bring back a souvernir for a very new addition to Minnesota....me.

I had just been transplanted from Washington State, a very shy and very small child not used to the cold.

Well, baseball was interesting and it was played during at least somewhat warm temperatures.

Harmon Killebrew was pretty cool at the time.  And Harmon Killebrew remains cool to this woman who never cared for baseball.  One of my favorite quotes of his is this, "Life is precious and time is a key element. Let's make every moment count and help those who have a greater need than our own."

I wanted to include somewhere you could write to give him your thoughts but I haven't been able to find it, yet.

Harmon, just know that we all have treasured you and have been inspired by you.  May you find comfort in the fact that you have given us joy, love, compassion and that your lessons to those you are leaving behind will try to carry on in the best way that we can.  Thank you for all you have done and the lessons you have taught us.

Please share your memories and thoughts with Harmon and his family now.  Hopefully, it will give them all some comfort as they share their memories with each other to know how much we all have enjoyed his career and his commitment to a better community with each of us.
