There's Nothing Wrong With Being Bold - Is There?

When you think of the word jack o'lantern what colour comes to mind?  If you're thinking orange, you are correct.  We've been living in our new house now for almost 4 months and I'm beginning to crave a little more colour on our white walls.

In the past, I'd say my colour scheme has always been quite conservative.  I've always leaned towards neutrals with a touch of blue for bathrooms.  In our new house we have a high wall in the stairwell leading to the second floor.  There are two windows in this area so it is quite bright.

I had a painting hung on the wall and one of the colours in the painting was calling out to me.  I grabbed my Benjamin Moore colour charts and tried to do a little colour matching.  I ended up picking  jack o'lantern 2156-30 and it  is not for the faint of heart.

Here's how Benjamin Moore describes jack o'lantern:

"This color is part of Color Preview. A collection of bold, saturated colors that brings spaces to life for those looking to illuminate their world with pure, extraordinary color."

Well my hallway has certainly come to life.  I only did the one focal wall as I didn't want to "illuminate my world"  too much.  I'm quite pleased with the results.

I have now brought bold into my house.  There's nothing wrong with being bold - is there?

Hi Jenny,

I Like some bold where you want to make an area stand out, like your stairway. There is a place or area in each home to use a bit of splash.

Jenny,

Nothhing wrong in any color for as long as you like it. I am like a kid, and like color, so one of my walls in our previous condo was a lot more bold. But I enjoyed it

I like it.

And now you won't have to go to the supermarket for pumpkins at Halloween.

Down here in Florida a lot of people would look at your wall and think it is a Conservative color.  I happen to love making a focal wall stand out.  Looks good to me.

I think that color on the staircase does make a bold statement and makes the picture pop. I like the photograph on the wall better with the colored wall than on the previous white wall.

I do think that when we choose colors, we should choose wisely. Color is so subjective. Maybe that's why people are more conservative when it comes to selecting colors before they put their house on the market.

In your post, I think painting this one wall on the staircase works and can easily be changed, if it's not acceptable to the new buyer.

Nope, there is nothing wrong with being bold at all! And by the way, that is a fantastic before and after, I love it!

I don't think there's anything wrong with any colour as long as it suits you. Maybe when it comes time to sell you would be advised to be more neutral, but since it's your place, why not?

Jenny if you asked us before seeing it, we would have probably said keep looking.  Seeing it shows you made a good choice.  Like the way the similar colour in the bottom left of the picture almost matches the wall.  The black railings are neat too.

I used a similar colour on this house.

Jenny--I was afraid to look because, 'if you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all....'  I was afraid I would not be able to comment, but I LOVE it!  It was a very brace and bold move on your part, but it not only worked, it is gorgeous!  Love the before and after---also love the black bannister!

You never answered my Halloween question.  I like what the pix does for the orange wall, and vice versa.

Jim, I will answer you first since you've been here twice.  Sorry, but since I took up this May 30 day, or is it 31 day blogging challenge, I'm slow getting back to my comments.  This blogging every day is a lot of work lol.

Yes dear, we do have Hallowe'en in Canada.  And yes, it sure is orange but it's growing on me.  I have always liked that picture and it really does pop now on that wall.

Oops, I see you've actually been here 3 times.  :)

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Teral, so I guess you passed on the orange then, eh?  What color did you end up using?

Hi Pfanns, yes I think focal walls can get away with bolder shades.

Being that it was a new home I decided to wait a few years until it really needed painting. The walls are neutral so I have red decor (red is my favorite color).
