DUH! The Stupid History of the Human Race - Bob Fenster (Book Review)
There are times when I find the demands of reading in my life can be excessive. I seem to be reading from dawn to dusk, and before and after as well. If you are an enthusiastic member of ActiveRain you will know what I mean. To have respite from from this diet of excellent writing, I read for a little while in a different direction.
These are those times that I pick up DUH! The Stupid History of the Human Race for a brief reread.
I have read the book several times straight through (Mine is the 2009 Second Edition), used it as a reference, or have found sections in it that can back up arguments of political insanity. Its famous opening is "Never kiss a rattlesnake on the mouth" seems to state the bleeding obvious, but Fenster goes on to say "We seem to be a race of rattlesnake kissers". The chapter topics are many and varied. Politicans and military conquest come in for excessive examination. Real Estate is there only by implicaion. But you will recognize yourself and the Industry in many places. Let the author loose among the posts of ActiveRainers and he would have a field day in the content.
I revel in the analysis of Part 3 - How to Destupify: Sixty-two unexpected things you can do to get smarter, while your neighbor stays as dumb as he always was. I am sure my readers will find themselves all somewhere there.
It's light reading, it's entertaining, it's addictive. It's a must for your library
