Bella Vista is a relatively young municipality with deep roots in its Ozark's setting. Originally founded in 1917 as a summer resort, it spent much of its existence as a retirement community. However, times have changed. Bella Vista was officially incorporated in 2007. Today, the vibrant community of 30,000 marks the state boundary of the Northwest Arkansas Metropolitan Area.
One of the most unique features of Bella Vista is a series of seven lakes open to local residents and their guests. Three of these lakes are designated as all-sports and can be used for various recreational purposes. Fishing serves as the primary activity on three of the four remaining bodies of water. Just 20 miles southeast of the city, massive Beaver Lake provides even more opportunities for outdoor fun.
Nature is a Bella Vista standout in many other ways, as well. Hickory and oak forests dot the local landscape. The city also features a variety of creeks and valleys. An extensive trail system known as the Back 40 serves as a premier mountain biking and hiking destination. And Bella Vista has plans to double its available trail mileage in the years ahead. Due east of the city is Pea Ridge National Military Park, renowned for its preservation of Civil War history.
One of the great things about Bella Vista is its convenient access to larger nearby communities such as Bentonville and Rogers. Many local residents work in these cities and enjoy a brief daily commute. Northwest Arkansas National Airport offers flight services in and out of the region.
