The Historic Kansas City Foundation held their annual meeting at 4646 Broadway. Built in 2007, 4646 Broadway Condo Lofts offer unparalleled views of the Country Club Plaza.
Members were excited to welcome Amanda Crawley as the new Executive Director of HKCF. Amanda's experience and enthusiasm is sure to help move the foundation to new heights.
The highlight of the evening was an interview of JC Nichols (played by Dr. Bill Worley) conducted by Historic Kansas City Foundation President Scott Lane.

Scott Lane, President of the Historic Kansas City Foundation, interviewed JC Nichols, played by Dr. Bill Worley. JC Nichols, as you know, was the one responsible for developing the Country Club Plaza in Kansas City back in the 1920's.
The Plaza has been used as a model by city planners and architects around the world as, perhaps, the best example of a successful mixed-use neighborhood development. JC Nichols' thoughtfulness in situating residential, retail, and office space was, and is, the key to the Plaza's success.
Up until recently, city planners have followed Nichols' plan as the Plaza grows. Highwoods Properties, an out of state commercial firm, sees the Plaza as 'an infill opportunity.' Their plan to tear down present architecture, construct huge office buildings such as those seen downtown, and decrease the number of residences on the Plaza is a point of contention amongst home owners on and near the Plaza.
The Kansas City Council members seem to be waffling in the face of Highwoods' money and power but the final decision has not yet been made. Save Our Plaza is but one project in which the Historic Kansas City Foundation is involved. The JC Nichols interview makes reference to the Plaza Plans and Design, including the Plaza Bowl Plan. The interview is broken up into several short videos to accommodate easy viewing on You Tube.
