Everything You Wanted To Know About Princeton NJ

Those of us who live in Princeton can't be totally impartial -we think Princeton is the best place to be for many reasons. If you are considering a move, you want an unbiased view, so you can decide if Princeton would be the right home for you and why. What are the housing prices, quality of life, how safe is it to live here, who would be your neighbors, must be just a few questions you are asking. One way to look for the answers is to see how Princeton fares as compared to the 100 best places to live, which the Money magazine publishes each year.* The most striking points of this comparison is that:

  •  If you are looking for a very safe place to live, Princeton fits the bill– our crime rate is 89% lower then the average of the 100 best.
  • If you are looking for diversity-you will be at home here  – Princeton is 77% more diverse then the average of the 100 bets (measured by a racial diversity index).

Here is a look at how we stack up in other important categories..

         Income

  • Princetonians are well paid. Princeton’s median family income is  $145, 559 and is 61% higher then average.
  • We have  62% more buying power, partially because of the high income.

        Housing

  • The housing in Princeton proper is not cheap. Our median home price is $824,029 , which is almost double the average. On the positive side, West Windsor, Montgomery and Hopewell have much less expensive housing within a few miles of Princeton.

       Quality of life                                                                                                                                                      Carnegie Lake

  • Princeton is a very safe place. Property and personal crime are 89% lower then average.
  • Princetonians have a relatively short commute -16.5 minutes compared to 23.1 minutes average
  • Five times as many people walk or bike to work.
  • Princeton area has more libraries - 79, compared to the 71 average
  • Our arts funding - state funds per person spend on art – is 3 times higher.
  • Surprisingly, we have more ski resorts (within 100 miles).

        Health

  • We have more people who have health plans.
  • We are as “lean” as the 100 best – average body mass index – 27.
  • We have a bit more people with hypertension and somewhat fewer elder care facilities.

        Neighbors

  • We are a bit older but still young, with a median age of 41.2 compared to 36.8                                    Hallo Farm ice Cream
  • We are very well educated – 87.2% completed at least some college, compared to the 72.4% average.
  • This is a community of mostly married people – 60.8, exactly the same as the average.
  • We have less divorces – 6.8% of residents, compared to 8.0% average
  • We pride ourselves on diversity – almost 77% better then average.
  • We love vacations and spend a bit more then average.

Missy -thanks so much for the time yo take to visit. I have convinced quite a few people to move. I am especially happy when it's friends. So, Missy how about just a quick visit to start?

Faina, great statistics to entice people to move to Princeton.  So do you even have to lock your doors at night with such low crime rates?

By the way, I'll be in New Jersey this weekend, but just outside of Cherry Hill at my best friend's home in Waterford and we're going to a wedding in Philadelphia.

Brian - the flip side of the low crime rate - it's hard for the police to keep themselves busy. Considering that we have two police departments, it's even harder yet.

Cherry Hill is only 40 minutes away. Do you want to stop by here? Thanks for your comment.

Faina, I'd love to stop by, but don't know if I'll have the chance this time around.  We haven't spent time with my friend in about 2 years.  We're getting in Friday evening.  Saturday night is my wife's cousins wedding in Philadelphia, and Sunday is my friend's daughter's birthday.  And we're leaving Monday morning, so the schedule is a bit tight.  Maybe next time?

Brian - you are alway welcome, it's an open invitation for my AR friends. I am sure we will get to meet one day somewhere.
