What Do Talking Dogs and Prospecting For Clients Have In Common?

What do talking dogs and prospecting for clients have in common?  A reason to reach out and talk to current and past clients.  A friend of mine forwarded to me the now famous YouTube.com video sensation from Talking Animals titled "Ultimate Dog Tease".  How I missed it until now I don't know, but, upon watching it (several time) I laughed and laughed and laughed.

Most of my friends, acquaintances and clients know that I pretty much ignore their e-mail forwards with jokes and other such nonsense.  And, most of them also know that I don't send around much junk of my own - non real estate related "junk" anyway!  But, I'm rethinking my policy of not forwarding this type of stuff for fear of offending someone or furthering the perception that I'm a spammer.

The sensational Ultimate Dog Tease viral video one of my friends sent me (see below) was simply too much to resist, I couldn't resist and had to forward it to a several current and past clients.  Furthermore, it prompted a few phone calls with past clients to "catch up" on what's happening in their lives.  Since I'm a dog lover and many of my clients are dogs lovers too, it made sense to forward this video to them - call it common ground.

By forwarding a sensational video, photograph or particularly funny joke, I'm just feeding the viral machine.  I could also personally benefit by making meaningful personal contact with prospects, past and present clients.  While I doubt that I could create a viral video sensation for real estate services, actually there's a great example by Whitney Pannell who did just that with her sensational video for her listing on 2444 Astarita Way, West Wind Lexington, Kentucky.  In the future, should I stumble upon some really good material, I'll certainly consider sending to prospects, past and present clients, and friends in an effort to connect on a different more personal level and not be all about real estate all the time.
