Worship with Joy

2 Corinthians 3:16-18 (The Message)

16-18Whenever, though, they turn to face God as Moses did, God removes the veil and there they are—face-to-face! They suddenly recognize that God is a living, personal presence, not a piece of chiseled stone. And when God is personally present, a living Spirit, that old, constricting legislation is recognized as obsolete. We're free of it! All of us! Nothing between us and God, our faces shining with the brightness of his face. And so we are transfigured much like the Messiah, our lives gradually becoming brighter and more beautiful as God enters our lives and we become like him.

2 Corinthians 3:17 (GOD’S WORD Translation)

17This Lord is the Spirit. Wherever the Lord’s Spirit is, there is freedom.

I really enjoy reading from THE MESSAGE by Eugene Peterson. He expresses the spontaneity of worshiping God with "We're free of it!" Free from legalism, and constricting legislation as far as our worship of God.

Worshiping God is not meant to be only at Church, nor is it meant to be only singing songs or hymns. No worship should be how we define our whole lives, doing and giving our best in all things. We should do all things as unto the Lord, our jobs, cooking, cleaning, ALL THINGS. That is how our mind set should be, in a state of worship. When Cain and Abel came before the Lord, Abel gave his best in worship to God.

Take time today to worship God in joy and truth! If you study worship in the Bible, you’ll find out that worship was marked with brightness, spontaneity, and joy. Can you say that you have brightness, spontaneity, and joy in everything that you do? Give your best to God!

The early Christians had something that fire could not burn, that swords could not kill, that water could not drown, that jails could not hold. They knew the holiness, the loveliness, and the glory of God in a life-changing way.

Rejoicing Always in Christ,

Paul

I like that line, "worship should be how we define our whole lives."  So true.  I love the Message translation.  Funny story.  I was sitting in the airport in Vienna, Austria a few years ago.  I was reading my Message translation.  I looked to my left and the guy sitting there looked familiar.  I couldn't place him so I went back to reading.  When I closed my book, I saw his picture on the back jacket.  Eugene Peterson in the flesh.  It was a comical exchange.

Hi Mike,

I'm sure that he got a kick out you reading from The Message too! That is a neat story. I just love how it wrote those every verse with so much meaning, truth and drama into it. It just really makes the WORD come alive in such a special way to me. I really enjoy reading it.

I read from many different translations, and of course they are all good. I use the New King James with the Gideons, and then at home or work I read from God's Word Translation, New Century Translation and The Message. I have several NIV's, lots of old King James, New American Standard, Good News, The Living Bible, and a few other translations, but I don't pick any of those up hardly to read anymore.

I never bought myself The New Living Translation, but I have it on my android (along with most every other english translation) phone. When I don't have a "Bible" with me, and I'm waiting for someone, I'll use my phone and start reading from the Bible (usually The Message) but sometimes others. The NLT seems to read nice the times I've read from it. But like I've said I'm really stuck and struck by The Message. It is just so powerful, with thought provoking, life changing words.
