Veterans Freedom Park, Cary NC

The Veterans Freedom Park in Cary NC is located at the corner of Cary Parkway and North Harrison Avenue, on the north side of Cary.  It was dedicated July 1, 2003, but has not been completed to date.  I rather like it as a quiet place, as it is, for reflection. With the upcoming Memorial Day Weekend, taking at least a little time to appreciate what others have done for us is the right thing to do.

The lush grounds of the park, and the size of 11 acres help the visitor focus on quiet and peace, rather than the busy N Harrison Avenue thoroughfare.  That removal from the daily hubbub seems fitting, in accordance with appreciation and remembrance of the sacrifices made by so many.

Veterans Freedom Park, Cary NC

Veterans Freedom Park has been spurred by commitment of SAS Institute to donate the 11 acres to the National Veterans Freedom Park Foundation and to pay to install a 120 foot granite spire memorial, in addition to the existing monuments.

Mike, I love all Veteran Parks.  The last few years I have been spending my Memorial Day at our veterans cemetery and it brings everything in to perspective.  Freedom is not FREE!!

Marchel,

Once completed, this will be a lovely and high profile memorial.

As it should be.

Mike - What a wonderful post. It is a shame it has taken so long to complete when it is so important all of us Americans but it looks very nice.

I have a tough task this Monday. That is visiting my father who passed this year and is at the local Cemetery in the Veterans section. I have never been there in the past. I believe it will be standing room only.

Ken,

I'm sorry to hear of your loss.  Yes.  Tough task.  And I hope it is standing room only!
