Shred Brings the Happy Dance to Stanford in Los Altos

The biggest news for me this week was the success of our Shred/E-Waste Event on Saturday. We had such a great turnout that we filled the shred truck to literally bulging at the seams! I won't have the total figures on amount of money raised from the paper and electronics but we had a steady stream of customers and I can safely predict an amount well over $1,000.

The was the second time Dan Hartnett, the owner operator of Sergeant Shredder and I have worked together and we have decided with make a great team. He has done other benefit shreds but we had the record with our November shred. Now that we have filled the truck, the best anyone can do is come in with a tie. Sorry to be so cut throat about raising money for charity, but I love meeting a goal.

Everyone was very appreciative of the free event and we even have Tanya Hall, a Stanford mom, on video doing the "happy-to-be-rid-of-stuff" dance!

So how did it come to pass that Sergeant Shredder and I now have a standing date at Stanford each year? I was looking for a shedding service to provide to my clients and at the same time I saw an advertisement in the Grunion for The Jeopardy Tournament of Champions of Middle Schools and noticed Stanford was not represented. I called Jim Birge, The Jeopardy Guy, and asked about sponsoring this event as a local Coldwell Banker Realtor but the price tag was a bit too high for me to tackle alone. I called numerous shredding companies and was either turned away totally for a fundraiser idea or they wanted to charge me an exorbitant price. I was lucky enough to find generous Sergeant Shredder online and the rest is history. They sell the paper as a commodity and split the profits with Stanford PTA. The eWaste idea was given to me by the lovely Peggy Walker of the Emerson PTA.

Long story short, Stanford will be hosting their first ever Jeopardy Tournament on June 15! We are trying to rope Brad Rutter, the highest Jeopardy money winner, into hosting the event. Stanford has some bright stars and I expect them to go far in this summer's Middle School Champion Tournament. I will keep you posted on times and locations.

I Love Los Altos! - Michele K
