A Day in the Life of a Moving Organizer - Packing Day
So... what does a Moving Organizer actually do?? Good question. Like other small business owners, many days are filled with prospecting, administrative tasks, marketing or networking activities and then there are actual WORK days.
The client has been met, a relationship with the homeowner has been established, proposal for work has been accepted, movers' quote have been obtained, packing materials have been delivered and moving date has been set.
WORK day #1 looks like this:
Crew arrives at job location around 8:30am
Crew brings packing materials: boxes, paper, bubble wrap, unprinted newsprint and tape inside work location
Peggy or team lead introduces crew to homeowner and goes over job particulars
Packing begins... PHA prefers teams of two in each room for several reasons: camadarie helps the packing go faster.... also, since I usually team up a less-experienced person with a more senior person, tips can be given and mistakes can be discerned faster.
PHA begins the packing process with the most fragile items and artwork first - they take the longest to pack and handling these items when you are just starting allows you to focus on what you are doing.
A lunch break occurs between 12:30 - 1:00pm, and PHA provides lunch for all crew (and homeowners if they're around). This is a time for the crew to get to know each other better or just bond.
Depending on size of home we're packing, the hours we work on the first day are usually between 6-7 hours. I've found that pushing people beyond 7 hours causes mistakes to happen - people are tired (this is very physical labor!) and accidents occur. Also, after so many hours of having strangers in their home, client's are anxious to have us out of their house so they can get back to their regular routine.
Have a great day, everyone!
