I Could Hug... Scotty McCreery!

Scotty McCreery - American IdolI Could Hug... Scotty McCreery!   For those of you who don't know, Scott McCreery is a seventeen year old country boy from Garner, North Carolina, who took the title of American Idol last night.   But, it was his very humble acceptance speech that moved me...

First, he thanked his Lord for getting him there.  That was touching.  A young man who's not afraid to acknowledge a higher power for guidance.  That's a Wow.  But, what happened next really got my attention... Scotty went down into the audience and gave his father and mother a huge hug, along with the rest of his family.  It was so moving I actually got a little teary-eyed.  It reminded me of my own son, Drew, who never blinked an eye about giving his mom a kiss in front of his friends.  I remember one time in particular, Drew had gotten into a car with his friends, and as we waved our good-byes, he said wait... he got out of the car and gave me a kiss.  I was floored and exceptionally proud at the same time.  It was a moment this momma will never forget!

You don't have to like country music to like Scotty McCreery.  His beautiful big voice, sweet disposition and optimistic outlook on life is enough to love the boy!  I for one, am glad he won American Idol.  Perhaps he'll be a shining light for more American youth in the coming days.  I Could Hug... Scotty McCreery!

I haven't followed the competition at all, I think I saw one episode from this season and I knew I just wanted him to win!  He's seems like such a sweetheart!  Best of luck to him!

I don't watch American Idol, but anyone who thanks God first, is someone of substance in my book! Such a sweet story about your son too. My son Brian is 23 and always says "I love you" whenever we part ways - it doesn't faze him who's around - it just what we do. Nothing like moms and their sons!

Melinda, It was cute how important the result was for both finalists, but Scotty almost collapsing was very sweet. Then he did what my son would have, tried to catch the confetti with his tongue (like snow)! Carol

Just couldn't get into it this year. I've watched all but the first season and then this season, watched the 1st two episodes and never watched another one again. But, it certainly does sound like he is a good kid.

He is so adorable and is going to be a huge star, as is Lauren.  And, I do believe those two are an item.  What a voice they both have.  I love American Idol because of how it makes lives.  From nothing to singing with their idols in front of millions of people.

What a great moment for you as a mom.  I don't watch American Idol, never have... but I turned at 10 over to fox for the news and Idol was quite over so I did see that moment.  I was also impressed that he spoke well of the GA girl who finished 2nd.

I was so happy that he won. His voice sounds all pro right NOW.  I'm not a huge country fan but have CD's of my favorites and I would buy Scotty's first CD in a heartbeat.  Fell away from American Idol a bit when Adam Lambert didn't win but can't help myself - one of my favorite evening escapes!

One of Scotty's answers to "What's next?" was "I have to go back and take a test. I'm still in high school." This kid is definitely grounded and has unlimited potential going forward.

I thought that was adorable too Carol :)

A good kid indeed Todd.

Aren't they cute together Jane?

Thanks Tammy!  I have 2 exceptional kids!

Ann ~ Me neither... but there are a few country boys that could change my mind :)

John ~ I thought that was a cute answer!

Melinda,

I thought it was the best season ever! The final 10 were very talented and I would have been happy for any one of them to win. Scotty was always one of my favorites and it was a humble speech and good ending to the season. Lauren is going to go on to bigger and better things too.

It's so nice to know that an American Idol winner is a young many with Christian values and talent. I can't wait to hear him after he gets his first record. Good things are in store for him and NC should be proud!
