How can we, as real estate agents, help to improve the market? After reading a comment posted by Margaret Rome, the author of Real Estate the Rome Way, that relayed her positive opinion of posting pending sales to help improve the current reputation of the real estate market, I thought I'd share my opinion on this topic.
I firmly agree with Margaret's opinion. Whenever one of our team listings is pending, I write a post about it on ActiveRain, Wordpress, Trulia and, now, RealBird. I will be posting a tiny widget on my blog with a pending banner across the top. We need to pump some positive energy into the market. The media cuts us at the knees every day. There is nothing positive said about the real estate market on the national news. Why would potential buyers rush to buy a home after hearing the news?
The least we can do is to promote our pending sales and closed transactions to neutralize the negativity that blares through the airwaves. One or two pending sales online will not create a new market, but if every agent devoted some time to post about a pending sale or a closed transaction, it would make a significant difference. It would pump energy into the market that the evening news could not destroy. Seeing is believing!! If potential buyers are reading about pending sales and closed transactions, they too will want to participate in real estate investments.
It's part of marketing, and real estate agents are marketing agents, first and foremost. Once we have a sale pending, we need to get as much mileage from each pending as possible. It's not the time to put the folder away. It's the ideal time to shout it out and spread the word that real estate is selling. I have been doing that for years, and it works in our favor. Think about it....but don't think too long!! Just do it, make your phone ring and make a difference!!!
