A Stormy Night, RainCamp Dallas

Earlier this week I was visiting Dallas for a mix of work and fun.  I was headed to RainCamp Dallas!  I brought my two teenage daughters along for a little fun and shopping.  Hey, you can't drive all the way to Dallas without hitting at least one outlet mall!  What would the neighbors say?

We stayed at the Sheraton Suites at Market Center.  It was pretty late when we got there Monday night.  We finally made it upstairs to our room and found several issues; the TV wasn't working, there was standing water in the tub, and the phones didn't work.  Ugh!  I must admit I saw this as a very bad sign.  I thought for sure I was in for a fight.  But the evening manager was quick to move us to a new room and even gave us a few coupons to use in the restaurant.

The next day was Tuesday.  I went to RainCamp while the girls hit the Galleria.  That afternoon we headed to the outlet mall in Allen.  We had a great time.

Well, I'm sure you remember the violent storms that came through Oklahoma on Tuesday evening.  That night they made their way to Dallas too.  The girls and I were just getting back from our trip to Allen.  We had big plans for the evening!  We were going to get in our jammies, order room service and watch the Biggest Loser finale.  Not long after we ordered our dinner, we heard the sirens begin to sound in downtown Dallas, tornado sirens!  Then the lights went out.

There we were on the sixth floor, in the dark with no idea where the storm was in relation to our hotel.  We were a little scared.  Okay, a lot scared.  The wind was blowing and we could see power flashes from our window.  We are Oklahoma girls.  We have a healthy respect for weather and know what it's capable of.  Especially after hearing the reports of damage and injuries back in Oklahoma.

Then in the darkness there was a knock on the door, "room service."  The waiter had carried our food up the stairs by flashlight.  When he saw that we were in the dark, he rushed back downstairs.  A short time later he returned with a tray full of lit candles for us to use.

Our fears subsided, the three of us made the best of our evening.  We dined on room service by candle and iPad light.  We laughed and laughed some more.

The next time you're in Dallas for RainCamp or just for fun, stay at the Sheraton Suites at Market Center.  The customer service can't be beat!

What a great story of service.  I hope you have given feedback to the hotel manager.

And, yes, that was quite a storm.....not our usual fare...
