Gary, They are cute but any way you look at it they are still a rodent.  We have huge problems here with squirrels getting in our attics.  I just learned that they will also cohabitate with rats.  We also have a huge rat problem in our attics.

Marchel,  These are the ground squirrels and they are a problem.  You can see a field just full of their holes -- then badgers dig larger holes when they hunt the ground squirrels.  Horses and cattle can easily break legs -- so the squirrels are not at all popular around here. 

Maggie, Thank you.  Usually I only see them at a distance -- I was surprised that I could get within a few feet to take this photo. 

Lynn, I know a lot of people that just don't want to hear that they are R______.  I won't say it either.  I hope that you have a great Memorial Day Weekend.
