Can I Sneak My Cat In?

                                  pet friendly boca raton

Can I sneak my cat in?  Can I sneak my dog in?  Who will know?  My friends told me I can do it.  I know people have lots of cats in the community.  There are even dogs there.  The cat goes never goes outside.

I am asked this question all the time.  My answer is always the same.  Why would you want to?  Boca Raton, Delray Beach and Boynton Beach offer pet-friendly communities.  Why do you want to chance going to a community that is not pet-friendly?   I can only tell you what the association rules are, and the rules say no pets in that particular community.  If you want to chance sneaking your cat in, please don't tell me anything about it.

                                pet friendly boca raton

Yes, there may be animals living in there.  But just suppose you end up living next to the one busybody neighbor who doesn't like animals.  And just suppose she/he brings to the association the fact that you have a cat, even an indoor cat, living in your condo.  The documents say no pets allowed.  You are in violation of the rules and regulations of the community.  Guess what?  You have a big problem!   They can bring you a lot of heartache and force you to get rid of your beloved four-legged companion!

So again I ask, is it worth it to sneak your cat in?  Why bother?  Why would you want to?  Who needs the aggravation?  You can just as easily go to a pet-friendly community that will welcome your cat or dog with open arms.  Your choices may be limited, that's true.  As a pet person, this is something you understand.

I have written extensively on the subject of pet-friendly communities in Boca Raton and the surrounding areas.  If you are an animal lover, there are some sacrifices we make.  We cannot live in every community.  We must realize that not everyone is an animal lover, and that's OK.  People may have allergies or just not care for animals.  We have to respect their feelings.

Ultimately, it is your decision to make.  I know as a dog lover what my decision is.  What's yours?

Elyse immediately ‘got’ us

We found Elyse on-line after working with another realtor that was not helping us find what we wanted. Elyse immediately ‘got’ us and showed us the right properties while providing encyclopedic knowledge of neighborhoods, dog restrictions, lifestyle options and benefits/trade offs between one house/neighborhood and the other. Elyse consistently provided important information at every stage of our process. As out-of-towners this was essential to our making the right decision. We couldn’t be happier or more grateful to Elyse for everything she’s done. Elyse is a rare combination of being a true subject matter expert and, more importantly, a genuinely caring person who looks after her people.

There is a new product called City Kitty that trains cats to go in the toilet so no kitty litter.

But, like you I would definitely advise against "sneaking" anything against the rules into a condo.  How sad it would be if you had to lose your animal, and get fined

Who would want the stress and worry?  I agree, find a pet friendly community and relax and enjoy.

Since our pets are part of our families, it's just best to find a home that allows them. The consequences are not worth taking the chance.

I hate it when I have a buyer who wants to be sneaky about this issue. I tell them the truth:  the asociation has the right to make you sell or get rid of the pet. Do you want either of these? If you don't mind, we'll just look at properties with pets allowed.

Elsye:  I was showing homes in Bear Creek, a community here in Murieta and my client has 3 dogs....Bear Creek has a 2 dog policy, per household.  The Listing agent at the home suggested she hide one of them???   What, I said no, and we decided on another community!  Good post on a topic that is not often mentioned.

Elyse, you are so right, why take the chance? We have cats and we take them to the Vet at times and boy they make a big fuss, yelling and screaming they rather stay at home....so if we lived in a community that does not allow pets with our luck we would be living next to Mrs Kravitz:)))  Great advice:))

Why take a chance?  Our dog is way too important to try sneaking her anywhere!

Elyse,

Interesting post and comments.  We love our creatures and we delight when others admire them.  It is amazing that someone would actually want to sneak a cat in. A

Hi Elyse, you provide such a great service to pet lovers.  I know how I feel about my fur babies and would hate to have someone tell me that they have to go.  Have a great day!

Sneaking around never works for either the pet or the owner, someone is going to be unhappy.

Dan,  Good to know.  I always advise against sneaking animals into communities.

Jeanne,  Exactly!  Who needs it?  Easier to go where your 4-legged friends are accepted.

Craig,  That's how I think.  I would never think to risk it.  It just isn't worth it.

Ted,  I tell them basically the same thing.

Lou,  I know; that's what I tell them.  Yet, they still ask.

Jane, Hide one of them?  Dogs aren't cats.  They bark and most go out to potty.  What was that agent thinking?

Endre,  Exactly!  You end up next to that one neighbor, you have serious problems!

Susan,  Exactly!  So are mine.

Jackie,  You're right.  It just isn't worth the chance of getting caught.

Ron & Alexandra,  People will see a low-priced condo that does not allow pets.  They figure who will hear a cat.  And that's how it goes...

Judith, Thank you!  I love my furbabies too and would never put myself in that position.  It would be like giving one of my kids away.

Carol,  You are right!

Kim,  Yes, it is!
