Indoor Mold Spore Avoidance

Mold spore counts within a home can be managed by altering the conditions in which the mold spores propagate. Some of the precautions should include:

Decreasing moisture in the home. The volume of moisture for mold growth can be lowered by correcting plumbing and roof leaks. Correcting basement water infiltration issues. Remove plant and leaf debris in close proximity to the home. Consideration should be taken in order to reduce humidity levels in the home. Humidity levels can be reduced by increasing ventilation and installing dehumidifiers and operating a/c units.

Reduction in organic material. The organic materials on which molds grow in the interior can be eliminated or decreased by:

The frequent removal of dust within the suture of the home by standard means such a damp mopping and dusting with a cloth.

Discard older stuffed furniture, toys, rugs, window coverings, and stored paper products

Consider removal of indoor plants.

Use non-organic furnishings and textiles in the home rather then items that have an organic base such as cotton items.

Maintain and clean refrigerator pans, air-conditioner coils, condensate lines, and dehumidifiers on a regular basis.

Replace or clean forced air heating unit filters frequently.

Use a solution of 50% bleach and 50% water to clean bathroom floors, sinks and toilets.

Use mold resistant paints in the bathrooms of your home.

Air filtration, in the form or either part of a forced air system or a stand alone system can be effective at reducing mold spores in the home.

Outdoor Mold Spore Avoidance

Exposure to high amounts of outdoor mold spores can be lowered by:

Avoiding leaf piles and decomposing vegetation, gardens, compost piles, and other areas liked with high mold spore counts.

Removing dense vegetation or plant debris from areas close to outside walls or windows of the home.

Avoid lawn work such as mowing or leaf clean up.

Reduce the length of time outdoors during times of high mold spore counts. Consider wearing a face mask that filters out mold spores.
